Horvat + Tanev + Hansen is too costly for a winger IMO. I like Kane but I don't love him. I think Burrows complements the Sedins better and Kane on a line with Kesler as the C would be an underwhelming outcome.

If that offer was for Benn or Seguin I'd take it without even thinking twice.

I definitely understand your thinking, but the potential of a 2nd line of Kane-Kesler-Kassian would give the Canucks 2nd line a whole different dimension compared to the Sedin-Burrows line. 3 guys who can play a power game, control the boards, forecheck hard and just wear teams down. It would be awesome to finally have a scoring line that doesn't get manhandled by teams like the Kings/Blues/Bruins, Kassian actually usually looks to pass the puck first, he'd be the pass first mentality on that line(not ideal, but they make up for it with speed, power, size, etc.).

The only thing I'd try to sub out is Hansen and try to cnvince the Jets to take Schroeder(or Jensen) and a pick instead to give the team 3 lines that can play well.

Sedin - Sedin - Burrows(skilled scoring top line)
Kane - Kesler - Kassian(power scoring 2nd line
Higgins - Santorelli - Hansen(a great 3rd line, speed, checking and hustle)
Sestito - Richardson - Archibald(good 4LC between 2 bruisers, would prefer a better winger though to actually put together a decent checking line)

If possible I'd alter the original deal, but who knows if that even interests the Jets:

Horvat ----> Gaunce + 2nd(1st?)
Tanev ----> Edler
Hansen ---> Schroeder/Jensen or just Lack?(if ownership has no plans to buyout Lu)

As much as I love this line up and agree with your lineup. You need to keep in mind that by giving up horvat And Tanev is giving up out future. If we go all in now, Theres still, with the line up we have like a 1 in 30 chance we raise the cup. Those odds are not refreshing to me.

I'd much rather be the 8th seed over the next three years. Therefore allowing our younger guys to grow and eventually having enough of a tool kit to be able to insert our young guys (Horv, Shink, Cassels) in the lineup rather than giving them away to an older team who most likely wont make it past the 2nd round.

Bad idea. With the guys we have, Should they turn out to reach there potential. We could have a decent team in five years and I for one am not willing to risk it,

Do I want Kane? yes. At the cost of Horvy and Tanev..... When you look at this teams future, its not a gamble we can make.

I really like Horvat, but Kane is an established 30 goal NHL scorer that is still young and signed to a very reasonable deal. There is not a prospect in our system that is a deal breaker for Kane IMO. I would not deal our 2015 1st, and I would like the rights to Burmistrov if we are giving up a bunch of futures.

if we are giving up horvat for kane the first name better be patrick. Has this franchise not learned dont trade your prospects especially if they are a center.
Trade edler for a top six forward thats it. sign a decent ufa in summer and buy out booth.

Say Edler for Simmonds
Buy out booth
Sign Ryan Callahan at 6 per year

Sedin Sedin Burr
Simmonds Kesler Callahan
Higgins Horvat Kassian
Santorelli Richardson Sestito

Hammy Tanev
Garrison Corrado
Stanton Bieksa

No what is wrong with that line up

I read something yesterday. It was an article where they interviewed Jason Botchford and Botchford was saying that at this point the Canucks have no interest in resigning Santorielli. They are worried that the he is only playing for a contract right now and if they give him that contract they fear his intensity and production would suffer.

I guess so. I was a little shocked. The way he has played this year I wanted him locked up to reasonable cap hit. He has done everything this year and works his as$ off every shift.

I would roll the dice on a 3 year at 2 mil take it or leave it and if he tanks afters signing the deal you send him down and he gets claimed of waivers or plays in Utica and costs the team a mil. in cap hit.

Or you trade him this year.

I think they will make that call at the trade deadline. If they are out of the playoffs then they will trade him. If he keeps it up and they are looking pretty good in a playoff spot, then I think they sign him to a Hansen like deal.

That decision might be made by the end of this month ( sorry, Fosco ).

The thing is, though, is that it probably won't be, because management, coaches, and owners don't think like fickle fans.

Friendly wager on whether or not the Canucks make the play offs?

Box of Rogers chocolates? Public ridicule & humiliation?

I think they'll make it.

I'm not certain.

But MG will do everything he needs to to make the playoffs and save his job, which means he won't sell off assets too far before the TDL.

Even if they're out of the picture by the end of the month, like you claim they will be, MG won't make "the decision" until the last possible moment.

But sure, if you want to make it a little interesting, you can choose my team and location until the start of next season if the Canucks don't make the playoffs

Yeah, According to reports they haven't even reached out to Santorelli's agent yet. Bad management IMO, at least you have to find out what the asking price is before the trade deadline. This team isn't gonna win the cup this year(call me crazy), so either extend him or trade him.

I didn't mean to be insensitive to your religion, no trading chocolate.

The team and location is fair, let's up a bit by choosing the appropriate avatar to go along with the team and location.

Edit: Of course, if the Canucks do make the play offs ( and get bounced again in the 1st round ), then you get to choose my team, location & avatar.

One quick thought on the Santorelli discussion I spotted as I came in here:

I think I heard on the radio that there is some sort of restriction for re-signing guys on one-year deals. The Canucks couldn't do anything with him until after January 1. If that's currect, I think nine days without talking to his agent is nothing to panic about—yet.

Not sure, though, if that's right. The situation bears watching.

Anyway—the new blog is up. Here ya go:

I'm sorry but this team has bigger issues than trading Mike (frank)ing Santorelli or re-signing him at the moment. I wouldn't do either at right now. We obviously need him in the lineup unless he's going to be part of a big return. Re-sign him now and you might lose some of what he brings or give him too much based on a small sample size. I personally want to see what he brings down the stretch and in the playoffs before I award the guy a multi-year deal.

The avatar is sacred ground.
