Well done Ek, you have outdone yourself this time |

With all the injuries we have, and still bench two forwards , shows the woes this club is facing.
Gillis may have addressed younger bigger faster on the farm club ,but little has tricklesd up to the big club. I guess we need to be patient.
I do believe anyone waiting for this current group to catch fire and win it all will be hugely disappointed. Whether you want to hear it or not this core has gone stale. |

I don't think there's many sensible hardcore fans that actually have legit Stanley Cup hope this year. The Hawks, Blues and Kings would bounce us. |

I think so too. I think some of our fans still believe we are just under the elite group and just need a lucky bounce or two and a top 6 forward.
We are middle of the pack in GF GA. And PTS. We are an average team. We are very similar to the Coyotes and not really like the SJ Sharks( even though the suck lately) |

I agree with Carol, Rogers Arena might be the quietest "sold out" arena in hockey, pretty pathetic. Even the Cali teams have louder buildings.
Disagree on Archibald, he was physical, but obviously didn't do much with the puck in his few minutes, I don't think he's going to ever be a big time difference maker but I still like his game over Weise/Dalpe/Welsh/Ferreiro on the 4th line.
Gillis should look into selling one of the third liners since we have too many of them or making a long-term trade for a top 6 forward that can help next year and beyond. Evander Kane is a pipe-dream. |

I agree, defense and goaltending is good enough, but this team needs 2 top six forwards to catch up to CHI/LA/STL and that just ain't gonna happen. |

Kassian has as many goals as Hodgson, and 5 more ES goals. He looks a lot more confident in the top 6, I really hope the coaching staff notices that he and Kesler seem to play decent together. |

Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks Game Review: Another Collapse, More Olympic Thoughts
The Vancouver Canucks stretched their winless streak to five games after surrendering two late goals, then falling in the shootout to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Also, more thoughts on the Canucks' seven Olympians and Tortorella on the outside looking in. - Carol Schram
Hey Carol, great blog. I wouldn't feel too bad for Torts as he has an awful lot on his plate with this team. The Canucks will be well out of the play off race by the end of this month. |

Don't think there that bad, but they'll likely be one of the wildcard teams fighting for a playoff spot until the very end. Lets hope Gillis realizes it and doesn't make a treadmill move by trading a pick for a Shawn Matthias. |

I havent been to a ton of Canucks game since I moved. But I did last year and it was one of the worst fan experience games I have been to now that I live and travel in the US. Fans are not the greatest as prices are so high you dont get the same true hockey fan at the game anymore it seems. But wow the music they play and anything they try to do to get the fans into the game was pathetic. Pathetic. Down right horrible.
Go to a game in Dallas and they actually do some pretty cool stuff and play rock as it should be.
Gillis has his hands full with this team right now. Doesnt look like the market is going to give him much help either. It could get real interesting come next year if we are not able to add much during the off season.

As god awful as Cody is without the puck, if Kassian approaches his numbers, Gilles wins that trade hands down. Hopefully they finally let him play with the twins. Makes our line a lot better IMO. Burr can play in almost any situation. |

They should be able to beat Edmonton and Calgary this month ( emphasis on should ) but other than that ......... |

Watch the Penguins PP last night and then compare it to the Canucks' PP. The Penguins skate, there's tonnes of movement, they pass the puck all over the zone like it's a hot potato, the create space and spread out the defenders.
The Canucks PP is relatively stationary, they like to set up the big shot from the point or the one timer from Kesler, but with such little movement and speed that it isn't too difficult to defend against.
This just seems like the perfect analogy for the Canucks right now. Just not fast enough. The return of Burrows should help, but they need another big top 6 forward who can score before they can be considered a legitimate contender. Another top 9 forward would help too! |

Lets assume these random ass twitter rumours are true. Would you guys meet Winnipeg's apparent asking price of Horvat + Tanev + Hansen for Kane?
How would you have felt if Gillis moved Schneider + Tanev + Hansen for Kane at the draft? |

They certainly have a team that COULD contend for the cup, but without the addition of at least one elite forward it's very much a long shot (at best) that would require ALL of the dominoes to fall in line. But we've all seen too many long shot teams (and I'm not talking the Kings a few years ago) make the finals or win the cup to say that this Canucks team CAN'T do it. |

They're hanging in and collecting points with the best teams in the league all while the no. one goalie, a top-6 forward (which they already lack enough of), and two regular defenders are out…
It was widely apparent last year that they're no longer legit contenders, but this level of doom and gloom is ridiculous…
EDIT: Their blowing leads late in the game. It's pretty obvious the guys are too tired while picking up the slack for injured players. |

The Kings that year were way deeper and more talented than this Canucks team, I just don't see it. I'd say 2nd round at best, and I'd call that a good season for the team considering the talent on the current roster. |

That would be a tough pill to swallow, but Kane may be worth it. He could explode offensively if he got out of Winnipeg. |

Kane is not one of the few players in the league I would be ok with Gillis moving Horvat in a package for.
Really hoping it's a lesser prospect if the rumours are true.
Would rather give up less and get Wheeler. |

Gotta give to get, 22 year old 30 goal power forwards don't usually get traded for "fair" deals unless the GM is a total moron. |

I agree, it's hard to "lose" a deal when you get a player like Kane. |

I may have offered the 2nd package at the draft, but at the time we had one to may starting goalies and Tanev was a bottom 6 pairing.
Now if you were to replace Horvat with Gaunce, now we're talking.
