Lot of great players on the ballot the last few yrs. How about the managers going in? Cox and Larussa might be 2 of the best ever - Bieksa#3
Strange that he gets in considering all of the steroids taken under his watch. Same for Joe Torre. Anyone who tries to tell me Larussa had no idea what was going on is full of it. |

Well MacGuire much like bonds became The Hulk over night. Never thought of that though, good point |

Watch the Penguins PP last night and then compare it to the Canucks' PP. The Penguins skate, there's tonnes of movement, they pass the puck all over the zone like it's a hot potato, the create space and spread out the defenders.
The Canucks PP is relatively stationary, they like to set up the big shot from the point or the one timer from Kesler, but with such little movement and speed that it isn't too difficult to defend against.
This just seems like the perfect analogy for the Canucks right now. Just not fast enough. The return of Burrows should help, but they need another big top 6 forward who can score before they can be considered a legitimate contender. Another top 9 forward would help too! - KB3Point0
To be fair pens pp is #1 in the nhl... crosby, malkin, neil, kunitz, letang is distugusting... but watching that game last night i agree with ithis

I read all the comments and some I disagree with. We have seen what Burrows Edler and Lu add to the club. Even with them in we have 1. win in our last 11 playoff games. We are just getting older and need an injection of talented youth.
We need to let go of the glory days and move forward. Bo Hunter Frankie C Cassels
Grenier Lack, this is our future.
it is time to start moving out some old core players.I respect what Burr Edler LU did but trade for assets? There is nothing wrong with losing for a year or two and restocking. |

I could swear I've read that on here (and maybe said it as well)a few hundred times. I guess Lu is looking pretty good now.

I agree this team seriously needs to make some trades but I don't want Gillis to be the one making any major moves. I see no reason to be confident in him finding what this team needs anymore.
What the deal with Jensen BTW. People have been saying he's been ready going back 2 seasons ago (Fosco and Boinker) but hes got 3 points in 25 games or something. Jensen is going to play pro in Europe for most of his career. Mark my words.... Im not one to ever say a prospect with his potential a bust ever but clearly he cant play worth poop in North America.... that much has been evident. Im still waiting for one of our 1st round picks in the Gillis era to help this team by actually playing for it rather than playing for someone else.... |

I assume you're responding to my comments.
I stated many times that even with those players this team isn't a contender, but the fact that they're still picking up points against the best teams in the league even with those key players out doesn't warrant the amount of female doging and moaning that shows up on this thread regularly. |

I don't think that's a healthy mindset. Frankly, I don't ever want to see the Canucks end up like Edmonton, Calgary, Colorado etc etc. I want to see our team perpetually committed to icing a competitive, exciting team that wants to win at all costs. Is that an unreasonable expectation? well, at this point any sort of expectation seems to be unreasonable; however, that type of passive attitude and team philosophy will never get you to the top. And we've had plenty of time since the Canucks entered the league to reenforce the type of culture that makes a team/organization successful
As for your comments, I know we differ on several subjects (and that's what makes this board interesting), but *wait for it* I disagree with your thoughts on Burrows (and the Sedings of course , which is a given ) but I still feel we need more guys like Burrows, who inject energy, can play on both PP and PK, get under the skin of other teams, and are able to chip in some offense. You know a guy like Burrows is going to give it - especially in big games, and therefore precisely the type of player that we need more of.
Ok, seems I've written a mini-Russian novel so please bear with me
Edit: I feel the same about keeping Edler. Yes, he has his breakdowns and makes gaffs, but he is also a hit-machine, has a great shot, and is able to make offensive plays (of course we all want to see more from him, but I think you can say that about most players with prominent roles |

There were a good number of Leafs fans upset when they heard that Nonis actually had Gillis down to a 2nd rounder for Lu and decided to pass. Its like passing on a checkmate in chess....

Agree with most here.
I do think they need to move a D (plus, if need be) for some firepower up front, but I don't really care whether it's Edler, Tanev, or Bieksa, as long as it gets a legit young top-6 forward.

The deal as stated by TSN and no nuts himself was 2 2nds and Scrivens. Still a hell of a deal and basically what they gave up for Berneir. No nuts was more interested in trying to (frank) Gilles rather then do his job and improve his team. ......god we miss him |

With minutes left at the TDL, Gillis called Nonis and said "ok, Ill do it for a 2nd" and Nonis passed. You are digging up where they were at earlier. This was confirmed by Nonis and others btw.
Agree about Nonis wanting to (frank) over Gillis. He had him bent over the table and all Gillis could do is pray for spit. Fail.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think Edler, Tanev, or Bieksa (or even Burrows) are untouchable and it would be great if we could snag a nice package for one or more of them, which included a top 6 winger; however, as we've been discussing for quite some time now, those types of players don't grow on trees, meanwhile it's difficult to replace a lot of the tangibles and intangibles that players like Burrows and Bieksa (and even Edler ) bring so it's just not possible (at least at this point) to bring in an equitable return |

Not accurate. It was 2 2nd ans Scrivens(whatever though) and no nut didn't refuse. He said he wanted gliis to eat salary, which killed the deal. IMO he never had any intention of trading for lu. Just wanted to lead Gilles on. |

Agreed.
The type of player the Canucks need don't become available often, and when they do it's usually for an overpayment.
Canucks don't really have the wealth of assets to make that kind of overpayment. |

All I can say is the blow it up bullpoop is nauseating. How well have all those picks worked out for the Oilers, Islanders and Panthers.
This franchise has spent 25 years at the bottom of the league, do we really miss it that much that we want to get back there ASAP? I get that the team has not achieved it's ultimate goal but it's still in the top half of the league during a cap hell year with many key injuries.
People need to calm the (frank) down. |

Not only yours words, there were a few posters saying a minor tweak is what we need. Everyone can have their opinion , that's what keeps these threads alive. I for one though think that it is more than a player or two move.
I to this day 43 games in don't know the players on any of the lines. That alone shows me this team is confused. We still haven't settled who our top paid D are .
I also think there is a country club atmosphere . I have no problem accepting we are middle of the pack as long as we improve over the summer. |

The Canucks atmosphere at home games might be the worst I've ever personally experienced in any sporting event I've ever attended. It's been like that for years now. We like to make fun of the 10 fans that show up to Coyotes home games but after watching a game at Jobing Arena last November it LITERALLY is no less quiet than Rogers (no louder either, mind you).
The Whitecaps Southsiders should have a section created for them and free tickets handed out to their group to pick this fanbase up from it's nostril hairs. |
