What's a salary cap? - Tomahawk
Do cap hits not decrease during the year? Is the cap not going up next year? Can the Flyers not retain salary?
Or do you just have too much fun being snarky? |

I was just glad it wasn't a 3 point night. I found myself rooting for the Pens because it helps the Flyers more. I felt ashamed. |

So if Hartnell sits tonight, does Vinny go back to center and Schenn go back to LW? |

They don't really decrease so much as they're pro rated. But yes, if a player is traded and neither teams "picks up the tab" so to speak, the team getting the player is only charged a portion of his salary against their cap. |

Toronto's in LTIR... so no 'decrease', as you put it. They only have 900k-ish of usable space. Flyers can only retain up to 50% of Vinny's. Hard for the math to add up, unless they're willing to give you another player in addition to Gardiner, which seems like a stretch, especially with Liles already gone, and them fighting for a PO spot. Directly trading with a team you'll probably be head-to-head in the wild card race also doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
Edit: Bolland's about to come off LTIR, too. |

The twitter machine says Hartnell is playing tonight, fwiw.
But to play it out.....IF Hartnell were to have to sit, why not try Downie in his spot? |

If Gus and Downie are fully healthy they should be playing ahead of Meszaros and Rosehill. - Feanor
I like the idea of rotating Gus in there, with Mez and Grossmann getting some breaks.
Downie should play every game for this team when healthy.
And Vinnie can go back to C with 4 lines of hockey players and no face punchers. |

They could easily make it happen if they wanted a center enough and thought VIny was the answer. |

Maybe. I'm still not sold the kid is going to be an elite defender. Mason had a pretty good rookie year, then things sort of came apart at the seams for him. Maata could be the real deal, but 47 games on a very good team just isn't a big enough sampling, imo. - wolfhounds
I'm just saying I was shouting Maata! at Homer during the draft.... |

That's good news. Hartnell has been hot lately. Once again, he's found himself on our best line. Hopefully they can continue to play well the rest of the season. |

they interviewed him on their "nhl arena cam" after the game, which i wish would just go away. it's the same (frank)ing questions/answers for every player and every game. canned. cliché. waste. of. time.
during the recap it was comments like "a rare penguins mistake!" and "crosby has beaten the caps in their last five straight meetings" that make me crazy. um, no, the penguins beat the capitals, not crosby. even the broadcast crew is so pro penguin it's just brutal.

I don't like Washington either, but it was more about the Flyers positioning. They are battling with the Caps.
I hate Boston too. Such a spoiled fan base. They have more championships in 15 years than Philadelphia has ever! Most of them don't even appreciate any of them except for the Red Sox. |
