At long last, the debut of the orange jersey icon here at HB! I was saving its first use for the next home game after the Flyers' had their home winning streak snapped -- which finally happened at 10 games last Sat against TB.
From now on, game day blogs will be color-coded to match the jersey colors the Flyers will sport in the game: orange for home, white for road.
I will still use the (outdated) black jersey icon for non-gameday Musings blogs, because the Flyers wear some black jerseys -- at least the defensemen do -- on practice days. |

I like the orange, Bill. But changing things up after a win? You probably changed your socks too.
EDIT - I read your explanation. Fair enough. |

I was a little stunned by the orange color. I like it. Anyway, go Flyers.
Would like the Preds and Flyers to be trade partners. They always seem to need forwards and we always need defensemen. Not sure if Homer burned that bridge though. |

Is Hartnell playing tonight? I thought his foot got banged up on Tuesday's game.
Edit: nevermind I must of skipped over that part of the blog.. |

From what I have heard, Poile and Holmgren are back on decent terms again. Supposedly, Poile wasn't speaking to him for awhile after the Weber offer sheet, but they worked through it.

Good to hear, and quite frankly it's in the interest of both teams to put it behind them. It would seem to me that the 2 most likely trading partners for the Flyers should be Nashville or Phoenix, both are deep on D and both lack scoring punch up front. |

Assuming he's really healthy, I'd like to see Downie back in the lineup ... the team as a whole seemed to lack a lot of tenacity vs the Sabres. |

Question for you, Bill: 2 months ago, Meszaros looked completely done and appeared to be playing out his contract here as an on again, off again fill-in player. He looked as though injuries had taken an irreversable toll. However, lately he seems to have regained his skating stride and confidence that were so evident during the 10-11 season. My question: given his recent effectiveness and the relative lack of quality defensemen projected for free agency, do you think the Flyers would entertain an extension? Two months ago, I probably had a better chance of being a Flyer for the 2014-15 season than Meszaros. |

No, I don't think the Flyers will extend Meszaros, despite his improved play of late.

After the initial shock of the first two years signing bonus its not a bad deal. I've said before though if the preds didn't want an offer sheet thrown his way they Should've gotten a deal done. |

No chance we see him moved at the deadline either? Not many bidders I guess... |

I think he could be moved at the deadline, at that point I believe he'd only be owed about 900k-1.1 million on this years contract so someone with enough injuries on D or looking to give him a look for next year may be interested. Especially, if the Flyers were will willing to absorb 20-30% of the contract. |

If a team gets truly decimated by injuries on the back-end and he keeps playing...well, like an NHL defenseman, there's a potential market for him. However, I'm hoping the Flyers are in playoff contention and prefer to keep him as a 6/7 guy. |

With teams so averse to trading in-conference, and the league-wide trade market so tight, I don't think any GM can afford to not talk to another over personal reasons/principle... especially historical trading partners like Poile and Homer. |

To just dump his salary and absorb 20-30% of what remains, the Flyers would have to either:
1) Be out of contention and have been offered a tangible asset for him.
2) Need every bit of cap space to fit a large deadline aquisition under that cap.
I'm no GM but wouldn't otherwise dumping the final 6 weeks (+ playoffs) of an expiring contract like that make little sense? |

Yes, very bold and daring. I hope folks can handle it . They'll get used to it... just an instant indicator of a home or road game. I am going to go back into the season archives, actually, and change all home games to orange jersey icons.
