Great read. Not sure why this isnt used more, like during the playoffs when a team is down by 1 goal, gets a powerplay, and wants a 2 man advantage. |

Is it a 2 minute delay of game penalty is the stick is measured and legal? |

Bench minor to the team issuing the challenge plus a League-mandated small fine (currently $100) to the coach. This rule was created to be a deterrent against frivolous, shot-in-the-dark challenges slowing down the game.

I've got one of your twigs from your days with the Firebirds, Stewy, and I am happy to report that it is legal!

Really interesting read actually!
Kind of been wondering this for the past little while - would be funny to see someone challenge a player's stick these days. I wonder if that coach would be accused of lacking rispek? |

Awesome read. Paul, it seems the major penalty also has been moth balled...
I remember there could be major 5:00 penalties for high sticks that drew blood, checking from behind, slashing, etc... But we seldom see 5:00 power plays now, typically only after a severe body check we sometimes see a 5:00 interference call.
Did they rewrite the rules to make 5:00 major penalties less frequent? I believe that the most common version of this--from high sticking--was changed to a double minor for high sticks that draw blood. If my memory is correct, the 5:00 call is no longer an option for this? |
