The Isles need to sit down with his agent, give them their best offer and if they reject it, trade him. I wouldn't wait until the actual trade deadline, because he could get hurt and you end up losing Moleson, your first and second. If this happens, Garth Snow needs to be summarily dismissed. Might as well take happy Jack, too! |

IF it is true that Vanek doesn't plan on resigning with the Isles pre-deadline, he should be sat and traded ASAP. The Isles can't risk him being injured pre-Olympics or during the Olympics. I'd say he is gone by Friday at 1500 EST. |

jesus, did snow give up a 1st AND 2nd rd pick?
i knew about the 1st, had no idea about the 2nd.
good god that guy is a bad gm
sucks for the isles and their fans......you guys have some solid pieces on your team, just need a gm who's competant enough to actually compliment them. |

Yes indeed! "Snow sent Regier and the Sabres three-time 30-goal scorer Matt Moulson, New York's first-round pick in 2014 and its second-round pick in 2015 in exchange for Thomas Vanek."
Looks worse and worse every time Moulson scores and it'll be even worse at the draft |

Don't worry. I was assured that no player has ever walked away from the Islanders when offered market value. Never. |

if the Islanders finish in the bottom 10, they can defer the pick til next season though |

Greetings from Belleville!
And by the sounds of things, they already did offer him a huge deal and he said no. At this point, they're better off trying to get something in return otherwise that entire trade was absolutely atrocious for the Isles. |

I can't see them not finishing in the bottom 10 the next year to so either way it was a horrible trade. |

Fortunately that hasn't happened much. As many of us thought, the moment he was taken off of Tavares' wing, his stats plummeted.

Moulson would have likely commanded 6 years, $33 million. If you want to pay that for a 18-20g guy, enjoy. What the Isles end up losing is two high picks in a bad draft and the value of Moulson in a trade, which is sinking by the minute. It was worth the risk.
Esecially if Vanek brings back a 1st and NHL ready prospect |

You're not looking that hard I suppose. The Isles will add Reinhart to the team next year along with Strome, Anders Lee (possibly) and maybe Scott Mayfield. Throw in a top four dman via UFA and a goalie who could actually stop a beach ball and this team is very dangerous.
The Isles failures this year were based on three very key injuries on defense, terrible goaltending and awful coaching. I'm willing to bet at least two of those issues are cured this offseason. We're loaded with prospects so the loss of a 1st round pick in an awful draft won't kill us, especially considering we'll get it back. Ultimately this will only be a minor setback at best. |

Whatever 1st they may get back will most likely not be as high of a pick as they'll have to give to Buffalo. And I doubt they get an NHL-ready prospect as well. |

I don't see that kind of a return for a guy who wants to play for the Wild next year. |

Dee Karl: Vanek: To Sit or Not To Sit
Three games & 6 points before the Olympic break - Dee Karl
Yes sitting vanek will help his contract talks.
You should have never traded for him unless he was extended.
Moulson is doing well in Buffalo. |

Dude you guys say the same thing every year. Prospects are prospects and with your GM most of them get traded away. Sorry but to much dead weight on your team and with Vanek most likely leaving the gap just gets bigger. You guys should do everything in your power to try and get Ryan Miller. |

I take it you don't pay attention to the draft very much... This draft is far from terrible. It obviously doesn't have the depth of last year's draft, but the top 5 players will still be immediate difference makers like last year IMO. |

I'd say top 4. But it definitely is not a strong throughout the first. I say if they pick 7th or higher, give up the pick this year. |

... Because we suck |
