if females are coming into leagues that have been basically male only leagues, then can a male play in leagues like WNBA, LPG, NWHL ect ect. players who cant crack the nhl or even the ahl, could they go and play for female teams? i think it should go both ways. i think ladies will want it how it is in a few short years. - mf1313
The problem with this theory is that the WNBA, LPGA etc are leagues specifically made for women. The NFL, NHL, NBA while being 100% dominated by males aren't gender specific in their titles.

True story...
I remember playing against a girl in senior high school and she was a good player. This was also a full contact league.
Throughout the game you could see that guys were avoiding her and not playing her as hard as they should/would any other player and she was DEFINITELY using that to her advantage as she had no problem being chippy. At one point later in game she came down the wing with her head down and (being a D-man and doing my job) I destroyed her (like I would anyone else if given the opportunity) with a clean check... No penalty on the play.
Not only was I booed, but I was also spoken to after the game. My response was "it was a legal check and within the rules, if she wants to play in our league then she needs to be ready for that, otherwise she shouldn't be here. She shouldn't receive and doesn't deserve special treatment..." Could anyone argue against that? No.
I love hockey and I love the NHL, but my biggest fear of women joining the league is that they'd be seriously injured playing against bigger, stronger and faster men... Just imagine a 5'6 130lbs female going into the corner Chara
Furthermore, we'd likely have a bunch of equal rights groups and Feminazi's lobbying the league to change it's rules to accommodate women joining the league, when in actuality it should be the women who should accepting of the league's rules and style of play.
I'm all for the development and progression on women's hockey, I just think it's in everybody's best interest on a number of levels if they had their own leagues at the pro level. - As_I_See_It
amen.
I grew up in an area around Toronto where soccer was huge, and each year the boys were scheduled to play the older girls. Every year from age 11-14 we were scheduled to play those games. After the first two years I categorically refused to play, my coach just about killed me. The games became brutal kick-fests... if the boys actually played they would "spoken to" in the manner you describe.
Want to have competition between the sexes.. stick to non-contact. Ski slalom. Tennis maybe.
That's why there are different rules for women's hockey and men's.
Rheaume was a curiosity. Any attempt to have a female play at that highest level would be the same.

I remember a provincials game in my first year of Midget. Other team had 2 girls as a D pairing. Seems dumb. Totally smart. The dudes wouldn't forecheck or hit them or battle the same way as they would against the guys because 1) we all felt like huge bumholes 2) if you touched them too hard they'd go down since they were like 5'2 and 100lbs; this would lead to penalties that you'd never get otherwise but the refs treated the girls differently.
Same thing went for trash talk. I got a penalty for telling one of the girls to go (frank) herself after she speared my Richard. I got 2 minutes for what none of the guys got penalties for when they'd say it to each other. |

Honestly, some guys here are a disgrace.
Women skaters in the NHL? No, for obvious reasons. But a goalie? Honestly, I can see it. It'd take more girls playing in junior, facing harder competition than they do now... But goaltender is a position I can see skill outweighing strength enough for women to start playing down the road. But it needs to start from the bottom.
And seriously... The period jokes aren't even original. Nor is assuming every feminist is a man hater. Just ignorant. |

I guy I played hockey with as a kid had a sister who was only a year younger then him and she also played hockey. When they got older they ended up both playing for their High School hockey team one season. One game they ended up getting into a fight with each other in the middle of the game and they were on the same team and she kicked his @$$ lol. She was Hott too |

There are so many variables to be taken into consideration. I feel that most women aren't ready to fully stand tall in a male dominated sport, what I mean by that is if you wanna play the game and be given the same respect of the sport as a man then you need to step up to the plate as such. After watching Team USA Vs Switzerland and watching one of the girls cry her eyes out after taking one hit, all I could think was pathetic, how can you play a contact sport, get hit once and be crawling like it was the end of the world by a girl smaller than you. Crying is not acceptable if you cant take a hit on the ice then step off. You can cry all you want in the locker room as I'm sure some of the fellas have done after getting hurt ( and i'm not talking a little hit or hooking action) but doing it on the ice is just another way to put a target on your back for the other team. I agree with the fact that there are huge size variances between woman and men, and most likely the only way for a woman to be in the NHL would be a goalie. But Goalies have to be fast, steady and grounded because when you've got 10 6' dudes coming at you, no doubt you better have your "A" game going or you will be torn apart and out cold while the goals will be piling up. Being a woman myself I am all for equal rights BUT if you cant hold your own amongst other woman then how the hell are you suppose stand up against men. |

if they can compete at a NHL level why not? Highly unlikely though. Ive watched womans olympics and the competition is not there unless USA plays Canada. Even then its a much slower game then mens hockey. |

The real question should be:
Will a male goalie ever make it as a female league goalie...I always thought men's leagues were for men and vice versa, but if not, why not have it both ways? - Deeps27
Thank you. I will play goalie for a women's team. |

A defenseman or forward isn't likely to ever be able to play at the NHL level... but if girl goalies started getting drafted into the juniors... it's possible.
As you said, it's a slower game, so the girls don't get the shot to train against the higher level players, and don't develop the talents their male counterparts do... but with equal training and opportunity, I could see a female goalie. |

All it takes is the mere printing of the word "feminist" to cause sexist numbskulls to freak out at the suggestion that women are anything other than walking vaginas put on this earth to please men. I'm sure all your wives and girlfriends would appreciate the deep and abiding respect you have for them. - DonzoBean
