My gf is a feminist and always pushing for equality in sport. She's always concerned with how much tv and time women's sports get compared to the men. I try to explain to her that it comes down to the almighty dollar. Men are just built to be "higher, faster, stronger" by genetics. I feel people in general like to watch the highest, fastest, strongest, and hence more attention is put to that by the tv networks. It doesn't mean women are inferior people or athletes. They just aren't built to compete with men. That's why a woman PROBABLY wont play in the NHL.
Not only that, but I think it would mess with the mens' heads..."can I hit this lady? should I charge the net like usual? It would change the dynamic. Not to mention where would she change pre and post game? She would be totally isolated from the team atmosphere.

Yeah, um considering there has been one with the Tampa Bay Lightning, you should be asking "will another woman goalie ever make the NHL?" - MissionHockey_61
1 exhibition game doesn't count. Personally, I don't see it, but if a Woman is good enough to play, I don't see why not. Simply put though...there are maybe 80 Goaltenders that get to play an NHL game annually....pretty tough for a goalie with all the physical advantages afforded to a man to make this league, near impossible for a Woman. |

Doubtful, unless we see a 6ft+ woman with abilities like current NHL goaltenders.
It is harder and harder to make the NHL if you are not over 6 ft in today's NHL. Don't see that changing. |

only if you allow them to juice. But come to think of it, there already might be some in the league. |

Begs the question...would a woman want to play in the NHL? And would a woman, knowing full well what sports means to men as far as male bonding goes, want to know she is contributing to a distraction to the TEAM by putting her personal goals first? All of this kinda takes away from the fundamentals of team chemistry. |

Is this a serious question?
Canada's national women's team practices against Midget AAA teams and they are close games. They don't even play against CHL teams because they would get dominated. It's not even close. |
