The nhl is about the best players in the world playing a sport to win the ultimate prize of the sport. It is not about men or women. If a woman is the best in the world. She plays in the best league in the world. That's all there is to it.
These people are brainless to say anything other thanplaying ability should have any effect on them playing the game at the highest level. |

Unintended consequences.

If she's good enough, why not? The sport is highly competitive, and so if she can compete, then sure. The genetic argument is misleading though as it is a general statement: you can easily find weak men and strong women. Maybe the probability of a woman being capable of playing at the NHL level is small, but it is nonzero. You want the best product on the ice, no? |

yea really. there should be a national womens league. then maybe do an all star game between the men and women. see just how good they really are. i know there are more girls teams popping up in youth programs and i played against a few really good girls back when i played youth. they made division 1 college teams. but really the olympics and world championships are all the women have to look forward to they dont have a chance at making money playing hockey yet. |

Yeah, um considering there has been one with the Tampa Bay Lightning, you should be asking "will another woman goalie ever make the NHL?" ![:duh:](https://hbcf.s3.amazonaws.com/images/emoticons/duh.gif) - MissionHockey_61
Making a team and playing in an exhibition game are two different things. |

nope.. size and strength are too much.
Yeah she's making a lot of saves in the olympics.. But the shots aren't in the likes of stamkos' and ovechkins'. She'd get eaten alive against the worlds best.
I can see them in colleges and junior leagues..
TOP of the world.. nope. |

Is this a serious question?
Canada's national women's team practices against Midget AAA teams and they are close games. They don't even play against CHL teams because they would get dominated. It's not even close. - 89_hockey
Womens tennis is probably the most equal sport in terms of TV time and participants. Serena Williams is porbably the best the port has ever seen from a physically dominant standpoint and can crack the ball like no one. Probably the best of all time.
She and Venus played number 203 ranked Karsten braasch and got dusted 6-1 6-2 after saying they could beat anyone below 200.
Statistically it is dumb to say it will never happen but it will likely never happen and to say it will happen at the goalie position is somehow underestimating how athletic these guys are relative to their skating team mates. You take any NHL goalie and put him in a room with 20 guys and he is a athletic freak.
To be an NHL goalie under 6 feet is very rare no days. That alone is a statistical difficulty for a woman to over come, and the guys who are 6 feel are quick as anything.
I'm all for womens right but it will not happen as it has never happened in any meaningful way in any sport and hockey is not even close to the lowest hanging fruit. Crack darts and then we will start talking about what sport is after that. |

The real question should be:
Will a male goalie ever make it as a female league goalie...I always thought men's leagues were for men and vice versa, but if not, why not have it both ways? |

Eklund: Will a Women's Goalie ever Make the NHL? - Eklund
I'm guessing you mean other than Rheaume? She only played in exhibition games for Tampa Bay. I don't really see how women could compete with NHL players seeing as USA Women's team lost scrimmages to boys highschool teams before leaving for Sochi. |

That'snot making the NHL - that's playing an exhibition game. |

Agreed. I watched a game where the Canadian Womens team played Lethbridge's Midget AAA team and lost. It was a close game, but they were playing with the no body checking rule. When there was board work the ladies would lose nearly every battle because of the strength mismatch. At thr age of 15 the smaller guys from the midget team were as big and stronger then some of the bigger girls.
When it comes to goalies I don't think it is possible either. You would need to have a goalie over 6' and have her play against the highest level of competition throughtout her career. Facing women's shots vs mens is completely different. The only velocity women get is through a slapshot. Adjusting to the speed of mens shots is a HUGE jump. The midget team I saw shot harder then the womens team. Could you imagine going from facing a 16 year old boys shot to a Stamkos or Ovechkin?
All this being said, I think it would be highly unlikely that a women would ever play in the NHL. |

You may be somewhat correct, but women would probably still lose 99% of the time, if not more. Serena Williams' is hardly a woman when it comes to her physical strength when compared to the rest of her opponents... |
