Actually if you knew how to read you could see it wasn't obvious to half the people who posted.

Doubtful, unless we see a 6ft+ woman with abilities like current NHL goaltenders.

It is harder and harder to make the NHL if you are not over 6 ft in today's NHL. Don't see that changing.

I can't think of one NHL starting goalie who is under 6'.

So I'm getting a sense that there is a possibility for a woman to play in the NHL.

yea really. there should be a national womens league. then maybe do an all star game between the men and women. see just how good they really are. i know there are more girls teams popping up in youth programs and i played against a few really good girls back when i played youth. they made division 1 college teams. but really the olympics and world championships are all the women have to look forward to they dont have a chance at making money playing hockey yet.

Umm I would argue that you could make a mens team of the NHL scratches on most nights and they would easily beat Team USA / Canada womens team.

Pretty soon you are going to have to be at least 6 feet 5 to play goalie in the NHL. So maybe, but she's going to have to be really big.

It was an exhibition game. She never made the "NHL". It was a publicity stunt, pure and simple.
- ruttager17

But now she goes to youth girls hockey tournaments dedicated in her honor and hands out the medals/trophy. My little sister was pretty happy to meet her. That one period in an exhibition game meant a lot to devolping women's hockey..

Shoot I can't tell if I'm sarcastic or not

only if you allow them to juice. But come to think of it, there already might be some in the league.

Flat out no. This sport is getting bigger, stronger, and faster every year. How many of these three women you mentioned that are at the top of their game could stand up to a 100mph slap shot. I doubt any.

The fact that Women's Hockey has a "Body checking" penalty says enough about this argument....

True, but that was back in the day when goalies just weren't very good.

Love Pang, but he was tiny and terrible.

There are only a handful of NHL goalies today that are under 6 ft. Goalies continue to get bigger. Honestly, women lost out on their best chance to play in the NHL. Doubt it will happen going forward unless there is an absolute monster that has a ton of skill as well.

Oh I don't disagree. I was just mentioning the shortest goalie that came to mind. Of course I will debate whether those goalies were awful. For my money, the greatest goaltender I ever saw to this day was Bernie Parent in his prime...only Jesus saved more
That said, I don't think it's possible for a woman to excell in the ECHL let alone the NHL.

Im going to say yes.

But this day will only come when woman have a professional hockey league with revenues big enough to pay the athletes accordingly. You need to draw the biggest and best athletes to the sport. There are plenty of tall and athletic women out there.

This will require them practicing and playing against men from an early level however because although fast paced, skilled and enjoyable to watch, the female game is not as fast and the shots are not as strong as the men.

In time however we'll see women capable of competing at the same level.

It's only a matter of time till the NHL does the way this sport is "evolving".
