True story...
I remember playing against a girl in senior high school and she was a good player. This was also a full contact league.
Throughout the game you could see that guys were avoiding her and not playing her as hard as they should/would any other player and she was DEFINITELY using that to her advantage as she had no problem being chippy. At one point later in game she came down the wing with her head down and (being a D-man and doing my job) I destroyed her (like I would anyone else if given the opportunity) with a clean check... No penalty on the play.
Not only was I booed, but I was also spoken to after the game. My response was "it was a legal check and within the rules, if she wants to play in our league then she needs to be ready for that, otherwise she shouldn't be here. She shouldn't receive and doesn't deserve special treatment..." Could anyone argue against that? No.
I love hockey and I love the NHL, but my biggest fear of women joining the league is that they'd be seriously injured playing against bigger, stronger and faster men... Just imagine a 5'6 130lbs female going into the corner Chara
Furthermore, we'd likely have a bunch of equal rights groups and Feminazi's lobbying the league to change it's rules to accommodate women joining the league, when in actuality it should be the women who should accepting of the league's rules and style of play.
I'm all for the development and progression on women's hockey, I just think it's in everybody's best interest on a number of levels if they had their own leagues at the pro level. - As_I_See_It
I play indoor soccer a lot and a buddy of mine asked me to come out to play for his co-ed team about 5 years ago cause they needed a body. I reluctantly came out because the girls all played varsity apparently. I hurt three girls that game. I knocked one out running down the wing (didn't even see her just turned started running and she was standing there like a pylon), I nailed one right in the head with a shot and another in the chest. I am not chippy, or that good at all nor an aggressive player and I hurt three University players in 40 minutes. I vowed I would never play again with woman on the field because I just felt bad. Just way to big a delta. And this was soccer. |

Men + Women + Contact sports = Bad.
Of all pro-sports, baseball, golf and auto-racing are easily the best fit for men and women to play together. - As_I_See_It
Have you ever heard the expression "you throw like a girl"? No Chance. Just because your talented sister can keep up with the slobs on your Slow Pitch doesnt mean they can ever, ever, eeeeevvvveeeer play Major League Baseball. |

I have similar story except the girl was a giant and bigger than all of us we were like 13 at the time tho and a kid on my team got absolutely destroyed by this girl. To this day I think that poor kid is scared of women.
Also we never let him hear the end of it. He left the team at seasons end |

The real question should be:
Will a male goalie ever make it as a female league goalie...I always thought men's leagues were for men and vice versa, but if not, why not have it both ways? - Deeps27

The instant I saw the post title I knew the comments would be a non-stop parade of subtle and overt of sexism, and I have not been disappointed. - DonzoBean
As per dictionary.com: Sexism - discrimination or devaluation based on a person's sex, as in restricted job opportunities; especially, such discrimination directed against women
Any "women's league" is sexist for discriminating against men, though to be fair, even the definition of sexism is apparently sexist.
The whole thing is ridiculous. Let the WNBA and any other women's league start including men on the basis of equality, and the NHL, NBA, etc can follow suit. Hire athletes on pure athletic competency, not on their sex and see what happens. |

The games would take too long with a female goalie cause they change pads every period |

If they're that good then sure but locker room wise not sure how that would work out. |

I'm not a feminist & Im not chauvinistic, but the answer is no.
Women's hockey, & other sports has lots of its own talent, but it's best to keep men & women separate in professional sports.
the hope is that women's hockey, baseball, basketball ect, gains its own fanbase & catches up with the NHL, NBA, MLB ect
I would say that sports in general should put more effort into pushing the female leagues, so that young girls develop an interest & find heroes to cheer for and emulate |

I just think it is so disgraceful that we as a society can support such sexist sports of the likes of the WNBA, LPGA, etc... Which are leagues founded on the principles to exclude individuals on the basis of sex alone. We are fortunate that we now live in a time where men are given a voice through the likes of the NHL, NFL, MLB, NBA etc... These leagues allow for a true free-market sporting outlet where sex and gender play no roll as to who can participate. |

The first woman to play in the NHL will be trans-gendered, meaning, a man who had a sex change and became a woman. |
