Bettman is so (frank)ing greedy. He wants money for everything. If he doesn't get it from the Olympics, he'll create his own World Championship.
- Jean_Perron

QP, don't be so silly.

His job is to make the owners money.

Pretty sure that's why they hired him.

I'd say he's doing a pretty good job.

You may think it's greedy but it's actually best for business.

I'm no expert, but I don't think many athletes get paid to simply be at the Olympics. That's what makes this event so special.

Does the NBA get anything from the CIO to be at the Summer Olympics?

Not sure either, but the NBA doesn't have to shut down for 2 weeks in the Summer either.

For the owners? Certainly. For the fans? I'm not sure.

Olympics hockey is probably the best there is. I'm not sure having an event before the season every 4 years will be as intense nor as interesting to watch. Players will be rusty too. At this time of the year, the intensity is up a few notches, and it goes up a another few because of this huge event.

I'm sure if you were to ask the owners they'd rather have the players they pay be rusty in August rather than running out of gas near the end of the year while in a playoff race.

I know what you're say about the Olympics, but the league and the owners take all the risks in this event and have little to no gain in the end.

Carter did the most with the least time. Kunitz should be a scratch and just do what he does best, drive Crosby to and from the games.
- mr.peanut

But the sole reason he was picked was to play with Crosby so he will be in the line-up. I think Jamie Benn will sit and PK. Luongo will get the start.

It's a business QP.

What's more important to you, Habs win the cup, Canada wins gold?

Also, what's more important to the owners?

I understand that the owners don't like to risk injuries to their key players.

But it would be pretty sad for fans if there wouldn't be NHL players in Olympics hockey anymore.

Right now, it's probably the most entertaining team sport to watch during the Olympics.

It could be because the Habs are not cup contenders, but the injury risk is not annoying me at all. I just enjoy the great hockey we're offered.

The exposure for the sport is a big gain for the league. Especially considering most players come from the NHL. It's very possible that people who have watched the game this morning not knowing much about hockey will start to follow it more, and maybe even start to play.

It's not as tangible as money, but there's a definite benefit for the league.
