I remember Vaananen's time with the Flyers along with Kukkonen. Thought both players were decent enough to be bottom pairing guys. Would love to see Timonen and Selanne take a gold at the end of their careers.
The dark side of hockey lets say. Police are investigating after the Refs actions in this incident. Kid has a broken wrist after the action.

It seemed liked the ref was handling it correctly until they both fell to the ground. It is tough for the ref there. He has one kid swinging a stick to start with and then two youngsters about to fight. If anything he was overly aggressive.
I am more ashamed of the people in the stands. Every other word was a curse word and they seemed to be cheering for more fighting or an all out brawl at a game that featured young players. How old were the players 10?

I concur. It seems the person filming is the kid in whites mother. As their skating away the boy in white slashes the boy in blue, seems the ref grabs the kid in white to diffuse the situation and falls to the ice. Than a coach or parent comes onto the rink to hit the ref. The mother seems like a real winner for sure, more profanity should help the sitation.

More of my take as well, but was curious what others thought. I believe the person to come on the ice after the ref was the kid's coach if I read the story correctly.
The kids/parents should get the blame in the first place, not more of "its the teacher's fault my kid is doing poorly".

Great blog, Bill. I enjoy reading them everyday. Jagr is amazing. You may be right about him playing in 2018. Guy is ageless it seems.
Am I the only one rooting for Kimmo to get gold? If it's USA against Finland in the gold medal game I want Finland to win. I don't know, I guess I'm not really into the Olympics as I thought I would be. I'd just rather see a Flyer succeed.

i'm still trying to figure out what the ref did wrong the kid slashed the other kid trying to fight and the ref and the kid fell off balance... the mom sounds like trailer park trash so it's hard to take her side without hearing the whole story
I think they just play shorthanded... it's a 25-man roster, so that probably wouldn't happen... unless there were mass suspensions or something. - Tomahawk
Yup. But teams dress 20 skaters, and 2 goalies. I believe everyone carries a third goalie. So if there were injuries or suspensions to two players technically a team would be playing shorthanded. But it's just semantics.
it's possible the US can still miss out on a medal, but at a minimum they have a chance at bronze. given their history of poor performance outside of north america for olympic play, i'm very pleased with the situation right now.

The US has looked the best of any team. Maybe Sweden, but they haven't really faced anyone very good.

US has been the class of the tournament so far imo. Not really tested yet though, especially in their own end so we will see.
Most of the games they have played they have been able to control the game, and spend the majority in the other team's zone. I do think they will take it, but goaltending can steal games in this tournament.
