That's what Q tends to do. Smith has been playing some centre on the 4th line this year so it's not a stretch for him. I doubt Smith stays at 2C for long but stick with it while it works. - DarthKane

Q is a fantastic coach .
Babcock is the only coach I can see being better. Babcock gets more out of bullpoop than anyone else.
Other than that Q will be in the Hall of Fame.
End of story . |

Who was I attacking, Shelf? - mohel
hey mohel, that cap space thing really has me going. it is on a daily basis. go to capgeek. click on the daily tracker tab at the top (it has a calendar symbol with the number 14). Then take a look at the numbers. You will see contract divide by 195 then times how many days they play on the main roster. that will equal the last number in the right column (called Cap Cost) |

Is this pertaining to fitting Teravainen under the cap?
If it is, Capgeek addressed it yesterday in it's twitter feed...

Agreed, and I like this about Q. This quality has perhaps contributed to a few of those 700 wins... |

Flyers are playing quite well of late...8-2-1 over their last 11 and just swept the Pens. Razor tonight for Philly...would be nice to still have him here especially if we end up facing the Blues here at some point.
Thought Ben Smith played quite well the other night. Glad to see him getting a chance. He was what 7 of 10 from the dot?
The Versteeg debate continues...Steeger still isn't where he wants to be from the
ACL which was about a year ago. 10 goals and 21 helpers this season while recovering from the injury...not too shabby.
As far as cap space this season...I think Bicks is still an overpay that coupled with Khabbi and maybe you save a couple mil. But we are where we are. Hopefully Bicks keeps bringing the body like he has the last couple of games and starts bringing it here down the stretch.

Not taking anything away from Toews but you must be too young to have ever watched Mark Messier play. - Elbows15
Yeah reeder, Elbows is correct. Messier decided he was gonna win for his teams. It was like a spirit to control of a normal body and made it do things beyond the limit, to force his will on the play. I grew up with hearing the expression "go through a wall for his team" but he was one of the first guys who I actually saw actually do it in terms of superbeing like berserker action.
We may playdown that Toews has an edge when he needs to and you may recognize snippets in any game, but Messier got plain nasty aggressive, focus to a fanatical point to win.
I hates the Oiler teams but I think I hated that there was suddenly more than one player we just didn't have, and the very good hawk teams had no guy that could ever match the passion or results of the intensity... |

Per Cap Geek...
TT CAN NOT play in the regular season unless another play goes on LTIR or someone is sent down.
I don't see anyone being sent down.

there might be more to the question - the question is when can they fit TT under the cap. And at this time, you are correct. They cannot. Which might be what they are answering above.
So when they demote, doesn't that free up cap space. How much has to be freed up. I don't think it was a good answer by capgeek.
Edit:Because according to capgeek, there is 52k remaining - which is 11 days. Or Mohel might be right and TT and his status has a bigger hit - one can say that TT's contract was buired in europe and that has some special provisions. |

Sorry if it's got you going - just explaining it as I understand it, and perhaps you're right. But cap geek's twitter says they'll need to get rid of salary to fit TT. |

Here's my wild speculation about Bulin's injury history....I think he had a legit groin injury that was going to take a couple months to heal. Then I think they found a pre-existing (but legit) shoulder injury that would keep him out for the year. Perhaps it is something he's played with for awhile, but was good with fixing while still on the company nickel. I doubt the surgery was fake, but he left the ice with a groin injury. - mohel
Ok, The conspiracy theorist in me says, Yes teams might be able to get their home team doctors to write things that might help fudge the seriousness of injuries maybe under the guise of "error in the side of caution"
You could have convinced me that after Khabby stuck out the joint so many time sin a row, proving there was cause to get him respectful dropped from the parent club.
I am now willing to believe Knabby injured his rotator on the golf course where he spends tons of time...I know more conspiracy theory....but when we got so little concrette info on Knabby it certainly looked like he was ousted. |

If CHI gets Teuvo Teravainen (still needs FIN to approve transfer/sign NHL contract), don't be surprised if he starts in Rockford (AHL). |

I'm not angry. Used the caps so this guy source would make sure to see it. I suggested we ignore each other last week because it seems like I drive him as crazy as watching Q does to me. Source has been my least favorite poster on here with his "no" bullshiit and I usually just go right past his posts as I suggested he do with mine last week. Difference of opinion is all. But I do notice that when someone gets pissed at him he gives his side yet again and then says lets move on. Yet he keeps the shots coming like a 12 year old with me. Be nice if he could just take his own advice and move on. |

I submitted the highlighted idea to Capgeek yesterday via twitter. Apparently, it doesn't work that way regarding the cap.
So that idea is out. Either someone has to be sent down, or someone has to go on LTIR. |

When they demote someone their salary leaves, too, unless it is a vet that goes through waivers. In that case they can bury $925K of salary.
How much has to be freed up is right there on Cap Geeks main Hawks page. There is a ? next to Today's Space, and if you put the cursor over it you'll see an explanation. It says this "the Average Annual Salary (cap hit) a team can add today." For the Hawks this number has stayed the same since the moves at the TDL. If there were pro-rationing of the number, this number would change every day, but it does not. A player's cap hit does not change - there is no pro-ration of the number.
Burying the contract in Europe does nothing for change the cap issue or the sliding issue, which are two entirely different things. The Hawks could not call up Morin or anyone else right now either, without losing some salary. |

No, not true.
Teuvo has a two way contract. It shouldn't affect the cap at all. However, it might affect his ELC slide. |
