For sure. Losing would be a major morale & momentum killer. We NEED that win. - Q...argh
We need a win against the Blues under our belt.....like I said would take a loss tonight and a win tomorrow rather than the opposite. |

Never wanna put too much stock in only 1 or 2 games, but given how average we've been of late, id say its time to make a statement. These next 2 games are as big as it gets. Not only to better position ourselves to get home ice against the Avs in round 1(the most likely outcome), but mainly to give us our swagger back and to gain momentum moving into the playoffs. Flyers are playing their best hockey of the season and are definitely gonna want revenge for that woodshed bludgeoning we put on them in December. Then obviously we need to establish ourselves against the Blues. poops startin to get serious. - SimpleJack
The next 5 are big - all winnable (Philadelphia, St. Louis, Carolina, Nashville, Dallas), four at home - before ending the season with 9 of 15 on the road. |

So I see the Buff worshippers are back because he managed to shove Barrett Jackman after doing absolutely nothing for 60 minutes to defeat the Blues when it counted. What good did his "toughness" really do….? I'll always like Buff for the 2 1/2 series of good hockey he gave the Hawks in 2010. But I see a player who could have been ( and maybe could still be….) so much more.
And are people still under the illusion that the Versteeg trade has been a good trade? I understand the Hawks gave up two prospects they weren't going to use. And for some reason people are championing the fact that Stan got Versteeg for half his contract when the truth was that was the ONLY money Stan had and the deal couldn't have been made. He has 8 goals and 16 assists in 49 games. By comparison, Viktor Stalberg had 9 goals and 14 assists in 47 games last year in the same role. And Stalberg was more disruptive on the forecheck thanks to his speed. Versteeg hasn't been aggravating enough to be a checker and hasn't scored enough to be in the top 6. And while I've been a Steeger guy and I love yelling "Steeger", even I admit his play has been spotty at best and disappointing at worst.

Buff doesn't want to be a forward and Buff doesn't like the "pushy" role. That is fact.
I am under no illusion that the Versteeg trade for former player regular and Cup winner here was what it was--- more offense, trust and familiarity....
And as you said, "Where were Olsen and Hayes going to play?"
That is truly the question, because doing a revisionist history about Stalberg means you would have had the Hawks PAY Stalberg, for his speed on the forecheck 3 mil.? It's called unrestricted free agency and to compete you have to pay or at least match.
If you check more than the stat page you will see Stalberg plays on the FOURTH LINE.
That is fact. So three mil for a fourth liner -It might be difficult to get agreement here on that.
(In fact now that I think about it I heard Edzo say that much earlier in the year....)
So last years Stalberg's scoring makes him Versteegs equal? Not in my opinion, because the both bring different things...and you are comaparing a rehabbing the knee Versteeg of this year.
In the year prior the Stalberg stats you use Versteeg had 23 goals and 31 assists...why don't I use that number to force the argument...it is moot to do that.
One plays in tight space and receives the puck well and shoots it well and is an excellent passer. The other has trouble receiving and holding pucks, has speed but of times than not cannot play to it! He is far less of a passer and if we go by goal totals you lose there to...besides the Hawks were looking for an attack player they had some trust in, and Stalberg despite the two goal games breakaways and feet, never consistently played the game shift after shift. That's my reality illusion or not. |

I still don't like Kane's reaction a little after he scored. He went right by leighton and taunted him - tomcat24
How did he taunt him or was that sarcasm? |

A game when they don't show up.
Time to start showing up every game, from the opening puck drop.

It is past time for that. I think the time for that was a game or two after the Ogi break ended. One decent game against Detroit is a start, but let's see it the next two days and beyond. |

If Stalberg is a 4th liner then so is Versteeg. 4th liners don't score 20 goals and hit 40 points. And before anyone talks about Nashville, no one on earth could score there, they haven't had a player have 60 points in 5 years. Versteeg's in the exact same role and can't score any more than Stalberg did with Shaw and Bickell and Versteeg had Kane. I don't argue that they couldn't pay him 3 million though, just didn't work money wise. Trotz is playing him in defensive situations, that's idiotic. I really think Trotz is a bad coach, got lucky having two of the best 5 defensemen in the league and a stud goalie to cover for an ineffective system. |
