See, here is the thing. No matter how much the experts on this board think they know, at some point you need to realize that the Bowmans, Q, the scouts, minor league staff, etc. all have opinions on how Morin, Nordstrom, etc fit into the big picture and where they can contribute if at all on the NHL squad.

So if it was determined that maybe a guy like Runblad is someone they scouted and liked and think is a value at this point for a 2nd rounder, regardless of his contributions this year, then you pull the trigger. Their hands have been tied most of the year with the cap and who was/wasn't able to be moved up and down without being exposed to waivers.

Really? thanks. I thought they were getting ideas from this board.

No, you are missing the point. No one is going to point the finger at this trade being the reason the Hawks faltered....

It's not what we think is the right amount of flexibility meaning it's not an opinion...it is fact. The trade gives the team no flexibility and the player acquired will virtually get no playing time......therefore its makes little sense.

So which is it? Contradicting yourself. If they like their current team and see no one else contributing this season, them $750,000 of flexibility means nothing. It does mean as an organization they acquired someone at what they think is value. So if it is fact, what is the right amount of flexibility?

>Shaw got his money, has his honey, and is playing like a dummy
>First 2 goals are on him -- goal #1: he is a few feet from the blue line and needs to chip it out to get a much needed line change -- instead he goes cross ice and turns the puck over extending the shift; goal #2: allows Giroux inside position behind the net and offers no resistance as Giroux takes the puck away
>Shaw has been lazy and a disaster in his own zone for quite some time and also is needlessly extending his shifts far too often
>Too many Hawks getting outworked in their own zone -- especially the forwards
>Versteeg slows the play down way too much, passes up too many shots, shoots off of his back foot always with no momentum ever going forward, makes the puck travel way too far on many of his passes -- his "rocking chair hockey" needs to end now -- he's another forward who is getting way outworked in his own zone by the other team
>This team needs to play every shift as if it is their last of the year -- or -- it will definitely be a first round exit

Don't know about that. I come here shoot the poop with some people I enjoy talking to and having some laughs with who share a passion for the Hawks and hockey.

Because value does not have to be this season. What don't you get? Maybe they felt that for someone of his skills, signed for another season at $750k and only costing a 2nd round pick it was value, vs. what it would have cost them in the off season. It has nothing to do with this season, or how much he does or doesn't play. In your argument you only make deals for someone who is going to help you immediately? So you never trade for prospects or picks?

Once again, I'll ask. If they felt the team they had was what they were bringing into the playoffs and we're not bringing up any other players, why not use the $750k for a player they wanted?

Not high on him, just not quick to write him off. He's played 1 game for us so it's difficult to say what he can or cannot do. If Stan gave up a 2nd round pick for Rundblad then he and the scouts must see something. I know Stan has Florida's 3rd rounder to offset the 2nd but Stan loves his draft picks so giving up a 2nd is a lot.

First, dope rhymes. Second, Versteeg sucks and so does recent Shaw. Third, post more.

I wasn't writing him off. And really the one game he played didn't show anything one way or another. Thought maybe you had seen him play previously.

Versteeg doesn't trust the rebuilt knee yet. Still plays tentative to protect it. Doesn't play with the redass he had before the injury.

Because the only Cup you can win in this season's. You have this season and next with the wonder twins. There is no guarantees that either are going to resign with the team. You lose either one and all the planning for the future with a guy you traded a 2nd round draft pick for isn't going to matter.

Ok, so you don't trade for Runblad. The $750k gives you nothing but dead cap space since no one is coming up. Once the playoffs come and games are every other day, your forward lines are set. Handzus plays every game and Regin sits. No forward from Rockford displaces anyone currently on the roster, and there was no trade made for any other options. Runblads money expires the same time as the wonder twins so it has no effect on what you can sign them for. My question stands. How does the $750k buried in the press box in Runblads pocket effect anything going into this years playoffs?

Understood, but as I said above, how does it hurt you? There is no one in Rockford who was going to replace anyone on the current roster. So what do you use the $'s for? What do you have flexibility to do?
