Versteeg doesn't trust the rebuilt knee yet. Still plays tentative to protect it. Doesn't play with the redass he had before the injury. - TheTrob
Is Chicago the only town where people don't trust (frank)ing knee surgeries? Hey man, you're knees fine, get over it and stop sucking. |

Ok, so you don't trade for Runblad. The $750k gives you nothing but dead cap space since no one is coming up. Once the playoffs come and games are every other day, your forward lines are set. Handzus plays every game and Regin sits. No forward from Rockford displaces anyone currently on the roster, and there was no trade made for any other options. Runblads money expires the same time as the wonder twins so it has no effect on what you can sign them for. My question stands. How does the $750k buried in the press box in Runblads pocket effect anything going into this years playoffs? - TheTrob
How does it help you? No one CAN come up because of the 750,000 or do you enjoy watching D-men as forwards? |

Forget the regular season. Who was coming up to play forward in the playoffs that replaces someone on the current roster? Not Morin, TT, Nordstrom, Mc Neil, danult, etc. What does it matter? If someone gets injured in the playoffs you can insert one of your black aces from the AHL. No one like seeing Brookbank as a forward, but do you think that's the reason they lost a few games? You really think your gonna see that in the playoffs? |

Understood, but as I said above, how does it hurt you? There is no one in Rockford who was going to replace anyone on the current roster. So what do you use the $'s for? What do you have flexibility to do? - TheTrob
When you have BBank playing wing on the 3rd line because you're carrying 8 dmen..... |

The remainder of the regular season comes down to the team more - or- less just biding their time until the playoffs begin. Sort of like our Vice President is also just Bidin his time until his term is up. |

They have carried 8 all season. Has nothing to do with the Runblad deal. Don't like BBank as a forward and would have preferred another winger all season but Stan had other ideas for some reason. Question remains, how does the Runblad deal effect anything? If they felt they needed another forward one of the AHL boys would have gotten the chance, they obviously felt otherwise, |

Okay I agree with you...adding Runblad was the right move. Even though it hand cuffs the blackhawks with a hard cap and he will barely play this season adding him with the possibility of him taking a roster spot next season was well worth it. Screw the regular season, screw flexibility if you have an injured forward for a game or two, screw depth that may help you get a better seed for the playoffs, screw home ice in the first round....as long as there is a chance he can be our 6th or 7th dman next year....I say bravo to the trade!!! |

...and guess what....a week before the trade coach Q even said they were not going to carry 8 dmen any more because it......wait for it......gives them no flexibility.......and then....they make the trade. The whole idea of releasing Kostka was for......Runblad??? I don't think so......

Well you choose to have depth where (?) since you do not feel the team has the luxury of a full time 6th dman. That is where the wiggle room for salary cap could have been addressed.
Next season I wish for the seemingly possible to happen. What on earth could that be. Regarding the salary cap, I wish Dahlbeck is good enough to be the 6th dman. I would keep relatively inexpensive Brookbank for his muscle, his veteran experience and his versatility (although I do not want him at RW if possible). If we could, we consider to release Rosy....but I would guess Bowman guaranteed the last year of his contract?
Concerning Runblad and TT, that is what training camp is for. I do like Morin as an inexpensive depth forward. Although he has his pro and con, he just may be a capable fill in scorer. Of course he would have to win Q over to get an opportunity. |

I never said it was the right move. I've been playing devils advocate, yet none of you has given a cogent answer to the question. The facts are as follows; 1) the Hawks have carried 8 defenseman all season 2) before Runblad they had Kostka and were at the hard cap Runblad for Kostka was effectively a swap. 3) they have failed to bring in the second extra forward all season long. 4) The playoff roster has effectively been set for a long time. Baring injury, no one was replacing any of the forwards already on the roster. 5) if there is an injury in the playoffs they can use a black ace.
So again I ask. What did the supposed flexibility get you? Why have you seen 8 defenseman all year and only one extra forward? What was the move that could be made with the $750k and why didn't they use it all year when various forwards missed time or we're playing crappy? They were handcuffed by their own choice even before the deal for Runblad. Again, if they had already determined that the roster is what it is what was the move? |

>Shaw got his money, has his honey, and is playing like a dummy
>First 2 goals are on him -- goal #1: he is a few feet from the blue line and needs to chip it out to get a much needed line change -- instead he goes cross ice and turns the puck over extending the shift; goal #2: allows Giroux inside position behind the net and offers no resistance as Giroux takes the puck away
>Shaw has been lazy and a disaster in his own zone for quite some time and also is needlessly extending his shifts far too often
>Too many Hawks getting outworked in their own zone -- especially the forwards
>Versteeg slows the play down way too much, passes up too many shots, shoots off of his back foot always with no momentum ever going forward, makes the puck travel way too far on many of his passes -- his "rocking chair hockey" needs to end now -- he's another forward who is getting way outworked in his own zone by the other team
>This team needs to play every shift as if it is their last of the year -- or -- it will definitely be a first round exit - SnapitUpstairs
Great post...and i've mentioned that Shaw has a maddening habit of making cross ice passes inside his own blue line, when all he has to do is, skate the puck out 10-15 more feet and make the other team defend or regroup. Instead, he pulls the pin and the grenade ends up in our net. And he's not the only player that makes such foolish plays.
He scored a nice goal, but has some major flaws in his game...i.e. bad penalties, bad turnovers, long shifts. SMARTEN THE PHUCK UP 65 !!! |

Most likely not....but that's what it ended up being. Something else must have fell thru, probably including Leddy.
I'm done also....have a nice evening |

Versteeg isn't helping this club. The expectation was we were getting the sane guy that left in 2010. Either he changed to much or the team did, but Versteeg is proving the old adage that you just can't go back. |

Not trying to stir the pot, but maybe the GM and the coach are not on the same page as much as people think.
Also, Snap it upstairs always makes good points and observations. |

Another disappointing ending last night...16 OTLs this season or something like that. Frankin' pathetic. But the game was lost in the first not the OT. Hawks had a 2-0 lead and gave it right back to the Flyers. The PP continues to sag - 0-3. A chance to pick up a point on the Avs and the Hawks weren't having it.
Hopefully a little more focused with the Blues in town tonight. |
