What if they legitimately believe TT helps win them a cup? Is a cup worth a second round draft pick?
- rollpards19

No Cap in the playoffs...if he was what you are all building him into, they would see him blowing around the Hawk defender s and say, "We have to play him..."

That is the only legitimate I can see useless big time injuries and scoring drought overtake the hawks and the only hope is for, out the last phonebook left in the UC...comes TT to the ice to take up the scoring for all....

Cup - my answer came off more smart-assed than intended. I feel about football lately the way you do about hockey and the Hawks. In hockey I like a more speed and finesse game, but I'm a smash-mouth guy in football.
- mohel

That's OK, I'm nearing the big 6 0,so that is still ingrained in me as being"part of the game",when it comes time to letting the players police their own game and answering the bell or being man enough to take what you got coming to you when you wrong someone. Kind of like what Torres & Cooke had to do. They knew it was coming ,took their penance and moved on.Kudo's to guys like Mayers who sent that message also.Toomany rules for repeat offenders to hide behind, which is why I like playoff hockey vs. the season, the refs put their whistles away and let the players decide the outcome, anything goes! J M O, that is all.

Demoting Raanta isn't an option.
- EKolb13

So what contract would be on if he played in Rockford? Players burn years in Rockford, that's what I don't get. Like if you look at McNeil and Danault, both had stints in Rockford that look like they were held under 10 games
- rollpards19

It appears that his contract will slide if he plays more than ten games in the AHL because he signed his contract when he was 18 or 19. If he was 18 his contract can slide two time. I believe the rule is there to let kids develop in the minors and keep teams from forcing kids who aren't ready to the bigs too soon.

Under their explanation of "Sliding" it says this...

If a player aged 18 or 19 signs an entry-level contract with a club (with his age calculated on Sept. 15 of the year he signed the contract) but does not play in at least 10 NHL games — regular season or playoffs — the contract will "slide" or be extended one year. The extension does not apply if the player turns 20 between Sept. 16 and Dec. 31 in the year he signed the contract.

I provided the bold.

Hey Mo. Good to see you're back. I ask because you seem to have the best understanding of this; If Ruhnblad was sent down to Rockford until the playoffs began and then was recalled to be a black ace, would he still be exposed to a waver claim?
Maybe a stupid question

Hi Reeder. Waivers is on the way down now. So the risk would be that he could be claimed when sent down. Once down there (and through waivers once) he could be brought back up without risk.

Can TT even practice with the Hawks? After all he does have a contract and I would think that he would need some kind of designation if for nothing else insurance purposes.

I'll be at the game tomorrow. I always enjoy when my favorite non-Flyers team comes to town! I hope for a slightly better showing from my team this time around. The Flyers have an absolutely brutal schedule the rest of the way and will be fortunate to make the playoffs.

Prospects start in Rockford and that counts as a pro year. The issue becomes when you need a few years to actually develop and your parent club is too strong for them make the roster. They then become targets for team grabbing them after they are returned.

The major league contract kicks in whenever the player stays up in the bigs...the prospect loses amatuer status after ten games in pro and is in the age range where they are unable to go to the AHL yet....

I was just outside talking to my neighbor a Penquin fan who said his team fell into the same apttern again Flyers...and it was too bad that the Flyers tough schedule is probably keep them out of the playoffs.

I told him of my frustration with the Hawks fans and their overdose of fan frenzy for TT, and he said (very astutely), "like a rookie is going make any difference on the hawk roster..."

I agree with your friend, but I'm not sure he understands the holes in this roster.

Our problem is we see this team to much: we over analyze problems the likely don't exist.

But I think the national (and other local) experts tend to over-value the Hawks.

I may be wrong Wiz but many here do not see him as the savoir, just curious is all.I do not want to give up a Regin if that is the cost for an an unknown.Just playing the fan game is all.Personally I say send him to Rockford and see what happens, just want to see him play in the system and earn a call.

Question for all....could Stan have done a better job of giving us more cap leeway for late season moves ? Seems we're constantly up TIGHT against the cap leaving MINIMAL flexibility !

While I hope the Hawks win, I really hope the flyers make it. I'm a huge fan, especially of your forwards. What was your view of the carter and Richards trades? A lot of Flyer fans I talked to still liked them. I still am a huge fan of the return. Schenn, couts, voracek, and Simmonds are very good players

Interesting series of tweets from The Freege

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC

1) Some conversation tonight about Hamilton's Greg and Matt Carey, who both play at St. Lawrence. Greg's excellent college career is over...

2) he is free to sign an NHL deal as a free agent. But, a couple of teams believe Matt will go pro, too. There is a lot of interest...

3) with CHI taking a long look at him last weekend.
