Am I the only one who thinks the Nucks should resign Matthias?
- vancity787

He's already signed for next year. Do you extend him now or see how he plays next year and run the risk of him having a career year?

At the 3LC position? I want Matthias
- kneughter

k, that makes sense. He is more suited for that position but that doesn't mean we shouldn't sign santo as well.

Especially given Santo's versatility.

Santorelli can still be had for a bargain. He can play both C and W. He should be re-signed for something like 2 years @1.25m per IMO.

I'd even sign him to Hansen money and be pretty happy about it.

3 yr @ 1.25 (1, 1.25, 1.5) is what I'd offer.

Less then Hansen? Can't seem him going for that

That seems more like a schroeder number (probably high) and to low for Tanev even

He hasn't earned Hansen money, Kas got 800k this yr (I think) he was in the AHL last year. Schroeder was 600K this yr on a 1 way deal there's no way I offer him another 1 way deal and Tanev should get Hansen money.

I think you're undervaluing him by a lot. He's worth more then hansen, so is Tanev.

Schroeder should be a 2way.

Was that the entire context of the quote? Maybe(hopefully) he was using that as an example by saying that doing little things showed Kassian's concentration and mental strength was there the entire game. The guy clearly has all the physical tools and the skill to be a top 6 forward, but mentally he needs to be more consistent.

I haven't watched the post-game comments so maybe someone who has can be 100% sure.

- Nucker101

People are just bashing Torts at any junction possible.

From what I understand, the whole problem with Kassian has been his consistency away from the puck. They want him to buckle down, and show up everyday with a pro mentality; "Do the right things to win". He was undoubtedly happy that the guy put up four points, but Torts mentality has always been "do the little things and we will win". He probably feels, and I agree with him, that when a player starts doing the little things properly, their offensive game will also improve.

It's crazy that everyone in this city looks at stuff like this in a Vacuum. I dont think its a coincidence that Kassian had, not only his best offensive game, but the best overall game of his career too. They both go hand in hand.

His value is in his potential, and, unless you're a Seguin type, you're not going to get paid handsomely for your perceived value.

I'd be happy at 1.9 over 2-3 years.

If we sign Santo and add a top 6 player I'd be really comfortable with the depth in the lineup.

Sedins/Burrows
Top6/Kesler/Kassian
Higgins/Matty/Hansen
Richardson/Santorelli/Jensen

In an ideal world our depth would allow the coach to push hansen down to the 4th line with the addition of another top 6 winger.

I havent really chimed in on the Luongo deal because I wanted to see the impact Matthias would have on this squad, but I think we've seen enough of the guy to say that he was exactly what our bottom 6 was missing. I always felt that even though Lu was a good teammate, his presence in the room was a bit cancerous. The synergistic effect of removing him, adding a quality player like Matty, and leveraging available cap space will be a boon to this squad next season.

This lineup is absolutely horrible. It will get us the top 5 pick next year if that is what you are gunning for. Top line is too slow. Second line no major improvement. 3rd line is small. Jensen is not a 4th liner and Santo is a small center for 4th.

Here is what I would like to see

Jensen Hank (Burrows/Higgins/Edler trade)
Danny (Kesler/Hensen Trade) Kassian
Santo Mathias Fox
Sestito/ Richardson/Gaunce Lain/Archie

That would be reset. But it does require shipping out 5 guys to get 2-3 guys of quality back.

My lineup had 2 rookies. Jensen and Fox. Jensen has produced and is a top 6 guy. Fox is a bottom 6 energy guy that can forcheck and shut down other teams. That is the reason he is on the line with 2 very experienced players who are responsible and have some offensive flair. The trades that are in the first and second line are not rookies. You are delusional if you think that if we trade Kesler and Hensen and all we will get is a rookie center. Or if we trade Edler, Burrows and Higgins and we will get a rookie winger. Introducing 2 elc players will give us the cash to afford the 2 trades and sign a reliable 30-35 game backup goalie. Give Markstrom a full year in Utica to develop. We can also sign a top 6 shutdown d to replace Edler and compliment our mobile D. But that is my opinion.
