I still don't get it. Why is it better to take the harder path? Do you drive to work backwards every day, use a chisel to write things down, and work blindfolded all day? Of course not. You take the easiest road to success that is possible. - jmatchett383
Its more satisfying. Agree ot not, still an opinion.
And seriously, how epic would your later scenario be. Broken legs for game seven!?! |

Would it be better if everyone bashes Letang like you constantly do? - acdc1206
Have you read anything about me bashing Letang recently?
Ironic that in a season where I think he's actually improved his defensive game a bit, and started taking some defensive roles seriously (albeit with limited time on the ice), a whole lot of other folks think he's doing poorly.
My whole point about Letang was to move him while he still had value, and semi-respectable replacements were in the pipeline. Move him before he started slowing down and not being able to make up for his defensive lapses with speed (something he's admitted to himself). Move him because unless he makes a very serious commitment to improve the defensive side of the game, we'll never talk about him playing into his late thirties, much less his early forties, like other Norris-candidate defensemen have done. That's now null and void. No one is going to take on that contract given his medical history now. So the Penguins are pretty much stuck with him.
First and foremost, I hope the guy stays healthy for the sake of his family and himself. But I also hope he doesn't become an eight-million dollar albatross around the neck of the Penguins organization as well. |

I am sitting here watching the game again and one thing that has stood out to me all year long is the structure of the fore check. The pens send F1 on the puck, and F2 and 3 stay high and cover the boards/ center of what side of the ice the puck is on. its like a 1-2-2 fore check. I was always a fan of the 2-3. First guy on the puck carrier takes the body(which we actually do a decent job of), second guy on the puck, third guy stays high above the puck about between the blueline and top of the circles. First guys hits, second guy gets the puck, third guy slides into the slot. If the D is able to work it to the winger the D can pinch and the high F3 covers. We often have the first guy there to take the body but no one to help so its pretty much a 2 on 1 for the puck. - Grinder47
Yeah the lack of help on the puck to acquire it was noticeable last night. |

I find it amusing that we have been harping on the HCDB puck possession system for years, and now that they adopted a more conservative approach at least for one game, everyone is about it too! |

What lineup do we play on sat. Put in our toughest, pull out our most skilled? Play our playoff roster as it stands now, and go pedal to the metal? I say play our playoff lineup. |

OK, but you don't seem real scary. Lost? Sure. Doomed? I guess. Torment our domain? Well I really don't have a domain on the internet and I'm guess most of us here don't. I suspect our domains involve houses and bars for the most part. Come to think of it I've seen some tortured souls at work and in bars, you doing that too? |

Up until last season, I was kinda the same way as that angry poster. MAF always got a pass, and it was the defense...or injuries...or whatever. There were always excuses, and it was never him, and he was up on this untouchable pedestal.
Now, though, after last year, that tune has changed. The Islanders series showed that, maybe, it was (at least partially) him. Now, he's the clear-cut #1 going in, and there's no one else to turn to like Vokoun last year. We'll see in a week or two if he's turned the corner. - jmatchett383
Finally someone who tells it like it is He has some many free passes in this town, he never needs to pay for a bus ride. Prove me wrong MAF I dare you |

The nearest comparison I can up with MAF is a race horse that refuses to win. He will run second numerous times but just does not have the will to win even though he is good enough. I think Fluery is good enough (he did win a Cup once) he just needs to believe in himself. I would like for him to have some of that arrogance that Tortarella (Mr. Humble himself) talked about. |

Pressure can make people nervous. It's tough to stay calm when there is a lot on the line. It gets easier usually as we mature. Hopefully he will be OK. Why throw him under the bus now? |

It's bad that the Wings get away with so much interference than McGuire has a name for it. "The Red Wing Touch", almost sounds as dirty as "The Rusty Vokoun".
I'm a Fleury supporter. But his last few playoffs have been nightmares. It's been a bad combo of the guys in from of him forgetting to help him and him utterly collapsing mentally. Hopefully he pulls it together this season. |

I don't think so, anybody I know either doesn't give their's up easily or has given their's up long ago. |
