After Giroux....there are no untouchables....I like Couturier....but 'untouchable' ? His best year has been 13 goals!!!!! That hardly ranks in the untouchable category. - landros 2
Believe it or not, players are evaluated not just on scoring goals. |

Don't disagree and if I could move him to get a Weber , Subban , OEL type player I would. - opeth_pa
yeah you move pretty much anyone to get those type of guys. |

lets say nistaken is aquired at 6 million
put him with :
Macdonald ~5 mil
Streit ~5.2 mil
Coburn ~4.5 mil
Schenn ~3.6 mil
total: 24.6 million dollars in your top 5, which isn't all that dazzling to begin with.
I think Kimmo, Gorssmann and coburn are gone this offseason. They had their chance to unload coburn last summer, they won't get the same value for him a year older now.
EDIT: if you want to count Pronger's 5 million, its 29.6 million for the defense. - the deaninator
Coburn still has good value. Two years at his cap hit isn't a killer. Grossmann being a million cheaper probably would be harder to move. I'm not keen on giving Niskanen that kind of money because I want to take a run at a winger who is guaranteed to get me over 30 goals in a season. Somehow Vinny has to get moved. I would much rather go with Ghost, and a lower cost 2 way dman. I would overspend on Vanek.

I would say he is, given his age and ability defensively.
SOmeone somewhere ( i need to find it) posted couturier's numbers this year, at age 21, with the former selke trophy winners of the past decade and where they were statistically at the same age. He was actually right at the top of the list, with guys like Kesler and Bergeron |

What I would rather have happen is the Flyers to draft D men well so you don't have to keep trading away the future of the franchise. - feelingkettle

the more i think about it, its crazy hard to find those kinds of guys too. you wouldnt think so, but it sure as hell seems like it when you really try to generate names. |

No problem, we all have our opinions and I can respect that. JVR's goal totals for the Flyers before being traded 15, 21, and 11. I would hope we learn from history before thinking a bigger forward who is 21 already has reached his ceiling. Just saying.

Untouchable is a term that is thrown around way to often....is he a good young player? Sure ....I like the kid a lot...but is he a guy I would never trade ? No. Would I give him away ? No....but to me only Giroux is the untouchable they have. |

That's my thought as well. Hartnell needs to get off the top line next year.
If they could get rid of vinny i will dance in the streets. He could end up being a worse signing than Bryz if his rate of decline continues this fast.

That's why Vanek who is just 30 is going to get paid. He will probably get north of $7 million. And yes I would be interested if I was the Flyers.

Nothing's worse than signing a goalie to 9 years $51 million and then having him put up a pathetic .905 SV% in two seasons as a starter. |

Agreed.
Giroux is the only untouchable they have.
Next level is Jake and Couturier which I would only move to get a number 1 dman under 30.
After that all players are open. |

Interestingly, looking what's in the pipeline, the blueline has much more potential to bear fruit, then a skilled winger. Vanek or Moulson, they have to inquire about, IMHO.

Probably seven years. The Flyers roster sorely needs a guy who can be a sniper. Vinny was supposed to be that guy, unfortunately it looks like he can't skate anymore to get into position.

He was doing it before the injury though. If his injury forces him to play like this forever, we will need to buy him out. |

i dont know if thats serious or not haha i know you guys get riled up about him.
but yeah. he certainly qualifies. love him. id have to think OTT makes a big push to keep him after what they gave up for him, but they do have money issues it seems. i could see him getting a mega deal. |
