at least you realize it. so many barroom fans just think you can snap your fingers and bring in talent. you have to give to get. i LOVE just sitting shooting the breeze with hypotheticals. teams dont need to be eliminated for me to find fun with it. but when people dont realize that you need to ship out to bring in, it drives me nuts. - stayinthefnnet
Oh, absolutely -- good Lord, if it was so effing easy to get a Top 6 scoring center and a goalie who you know would win in the playoffs, everybody would have one

Gill missed an open net that could have changed the game, as well as being exposed defensively.
Rinaldo hardly plays. Laughton and Gus are better players than those players. Simple. - PLindbergh31
Gill isn't in the lineup for his offensive goal scoring ability. It's not always about who's a better player when choosing what defenseman to replace an injured player. It's about what type of defenseman. Gill was the victim of not only a bad pass, but an ill timed one from Coburn. I disagree that he was exposed. I'm not against the lineup changes. I just doubt that alone is going to make a difference. Laughton likely wouldn't play much either. And Gustafsson, well, he's just not that good to make a difference.

Plenty of time for all that talk in the off season. The Flyers have beaten the Rangers what, 5 times this Season? Why can't they beat them in game 6? - MJL
I said it before game 5 and it still holds true....everyone here has seen the Flyers play better this year.....there is no reason they can't turn this around....chances are running out, but they are still there....they aren't playing the 78 Canadiens for ^#%€ sakes.

As much as it pains me...your correct....I don't see how a lineup change is going to do much.....if Downie was healthy ? Maybe....but Laughton's a kid and Gus didn't exactly set the world on fire this year....I think their best chance is to go with what they got. |

Rangers fans know there is still a long way to go. Winning a fourth game in any series is hard, especially on the road, and in this case against a team as proud and willing to fight as hard as Philly. None of us think it's remotely a done deal, lots of work left to do. |

Mackinnon is an even younger kid and he's leading the NHL in playoff points. I'm sure its not impossible for someone like Laughton to at least make an impact. |

McKinnon is a franchise level player, and a first overall pick. I think Laughton could contribute in some way. But expecting him to come up from Juniors and be impactful, is a stretch. But you never know, he could chip in a goal or something. But really the point is that the Flyers aren't down in this series because of role players such as Rinaldo.

Regardless of what happens in this Series. I still believe in Giroux as a player. And still think he's the right guy to build this team around. - MJL
Agree with you. Giroux is still one of the top talents in the league and he is a rare commodity in that he is a legit #1 C who can play in any situations. For some reason he has struggled against the Rangers but there is no question he is an elite player. I would gladly take him on the Blueshirts. |

I'd much more prefer you guys think we are going to roll over and die. They most likely will. Please tell the Rangers. |

Why anybody even puts them in the same sentence or expects similar impacts is crazy
However Laughton to me can possibly be more helpful than Rinaldo |

To be honest the Rangers deserve to be up 3-2.....as a flyer fan the frustration lies in the fact that this effort is far below what this team has shown to be capable of....but it takes 4 to win.... |

I think everyone knows Mackinnon's pedigree (I didn't think I would have to post a disclaimer with my post).
I never said Laughton would compete with Mackinnon in points. However, if other players aren't getting the job done, and he plays a shift or two in their place, you never know.

They are down in this series because this is a poorly put together club, with lines that do not mix well, slowness that effort cannot compensate for, and over-valuing of their young forward talent. Its possible (but unlikely) they win this series but obviously they are not contenders and will not be in the near future. Not to say that they will be contenders in the distant future -its just that it is too difficult to tell beyond 2 years or so.
Some young forwards will get better, but the pace of improvement is fairly slow and the ceiling might be 2nd line. And this will be compensated by the decline of players like Vinny and Hartnell, each of whom have nice deep contracts with NMCs. Giroux will likely have a short shelf life because teams are already hammering the crap out of him because they know we don't have much beyond him.
Regarding defence - lots of 3-4 guys. More 3-4 guys in pipeline. Will be hard to trade Grossmann with the knee injury again. Maybe Ghost can come in and change everything around but seems unlikely.
All of this will mean continued appearances in post-season and continued failures to be true contenders and continued failures to pick elite talent high in the first round.
The future is...neither black nor shining white but rather bright grey.

The Rangers actually deserve to have won the series by now 4-1. Game 4 was stolen by Mason. It really was quite remarkable.
Flyers have been outplayed. In every department, they've been out played. If they want to beat the Rangers you have to score ugly goals. How many rebound goals in the crease have the Flyers knocked home this series?

There are a ton of contingencies on the Miller deal, for St. Louis. But since they didn't make it to the conference finals, they don't auto, atically owe them another first-round pick.
Where it becomes tricky is, if they re-sign him, when, exactly, they do it. But reading all the contingencies...I think, maybe...you might let him walk, if you think you need to use the draft pick in a trade |

They got hit with some bad luck with injuries at the end of the season and ended up dropping out of first they had almost all year
Still a great club
Not sure what they do with goalie position going forward - Marc D
You let Miller walk. I don't understand the love fest for the guy. He's an average goalie to me. Doesn't hurt you, but he rarely plays amazing.
I've never been scared to play against Miller. Hasek, Broduer, Roy, and Thomas (When he was a Bruin only) were the only guys I can think of off the top of my head I hated playing. |
