true. it is definitely better to be overly cautious than to force a deal that isnt there. the wait and see approach isnt a bad fallback at all. but if the deal is there, i would jump on it. i dont think the schenn/jvr swap was necessarily a bad one. but luke schenn (maybe much more clearly now than at the time) is just very much the type of dman the flyers dont need, even if he turns out to be successful at his role. - stayinthefnnet
Agree, the principle behind the trade was sound. The return was a duplication of what was already in the top 6. For that reason, I think this organization is smart enough to self-evaluate and not make that same mistake with Coots and B. Schenn.
It's time to put some faith in at least one of the youngsters starting next season. It would certainly help their cap situation to have at least one guy in the top 6 on an entry level deal playing every night.

For this summer I'm patchworking this thing. Not moving any of B Schenn, Coots, or Laughton bc I think they all have a spot on the team. 2C, 3C, 4C
Lecavalier I dont know what you do with. If you can trade him hell yea but thats debatable if hes tradeable at all. - Just5
I'd be willing to move a B. Schenn & Grossmann but what that would bring who knows, the market hasn't taken shape yet & won't for some time.
But I will also say I'm not looking to shove B. Schenn out the door either.
As for Vinny I'd like to hope he retires but he won't..........He's got to be almost if not 100% untradeable |

if a GM takes vinnys contract he should be immediately fired.
as far as the Cs go. thats a damn good run through. although, if all things go according to plan, you guys may run into the issue the pens had with staal. granted, thats not necessarily a bad problem to have because that means you hit on it and youre going to be ridiculously set up during these next few years of ELC and RFA status and whatnot. |

Now you are moving out a Top 6 forward. Creating a hole. Unless you want to go forward with Vinny as the 2C. Or maybe theres other plans?
Im not convinced Coots can handle a scoring role.
I need another year minimal with the young group of forwards. |

i think subban is right up there with letang as being the most physically gifted DMen in the league. but i still dont think the flyers need a guy like him to necessarily take that leap. i still think roman josi is a perfect name. someone of that level, with the potential for more.
a guy out there on his current deal i would LOVE for the pens, mark giordano of the flames. - stayinthefnnet
Letang is a giant defensive liability. |

Wow...that was Luca Sbisa that Trevor Daley blew past on that second breakaway. He's been interesting out in Anaheim, some good development at times, some plateauing. Looked good last game, though |

Well is it creating a hole, you have Laughton to replace him if that did happen.
Laughton can handle some of the shutdown stuff & kick up Coots into a 2nd line center role. But this is all a guess at least from me. |

depending on the plus, say schenn and another asset for shattenkirk. Something like that. Im not saying the blues would rush out to do the deal, but i think the net gain for the roster would the best course overall, as opposed to waiting pat or at the other end of the spectrum going whole hog for a huge fish. |

You've seen a lot of Laughton. You think hes ready to step right into a shutdown role?
I'd be more willing to wait it out. See what Laughton has next year, and possibly dangle a package frontlined by Couturier for the young stud Dman. If it's clear Laughton can step in for the 3rd line center job. |

He says what he loves to do most is play defense, it's likely what he'll do best in the NHL while having some offensive skill.
No I don't move 14 at all, I think he's just getting started with how good he can be & I'd like to keep him here as long as possible. |

I agree with you on 14. He is still growing into his body. He is far from a finished product.

I agree the only way Laughton seeing any time in these playoffs is if there is an injury. I'll be interested to see how Alt has developed. He's getting to that age where if he is going to make the jump to an NHL career probably is going to happen over the next two years.

Alt might be the one who is soonest to see the NHL from their D prospects. He was paired with Hagg the last handful of games in the AHL season. Thought they looked decent in the few I watched. |

Which is exactly why Holmgren should be shown the door.......and there is a chance that even Ed Snider might do it. |

I'm wondering if Tampa would take him back at that salary? I cant imagine him being very happy in the current situation. |

Ppl wanting to trade vinny and saying the contract should get any gm fired if tgey agree to take it instead we'll be looking to move youth because we have dead weight on the roster...Funny but i could've swore last summer i said this and was laughed at.
This roster as a whole has me curious... It needs work but who do you move?... I know who i'd move but again id get laughed at so i'll sit back and enjoy reading from the experts. |
