There's a few guys in the UFA crop that are intriguing. If there was more cap space, I'd be happy with Emery returning. - Jsaquella

With today's information age, there are tons of articles on websites detailing the flaws of analytics, and how they can be misused out of context. By the creators themselves. How Corsi and Corsi relative are flawed. How WOWY's can't determine if a player is good player or bad player. But it's been used repeatedly in that manner.
All those quotes you provided said is that they use them in part. They don't state how much influence they have in their decision making. And Bowman states that the analystics they use are proprietary. Which means the ones he uses aren't on the websites. All Lombardi said is that they're going to see if it works. So again, saying that they used these stats to win Stanley Cups, is as much of a misuse of the quotes, as the stats are being misused. It's a tool that should be used, and not ignored. But the stats are not capable of doing what many use them for. And there is plenty of material to back that up. And I'd be glad to have that discussion in depth. But there is a thread dedicated to that, which I'd be glad to provide the line to. Because I don't think the general membership of the board and this thread, wants it clogging it up. So here is the link. I'll be glad to discuss any analytic, and it's use in the proper context, on that thread.

I know I shouldn't get involved, but he never said those GMs used those stats to win Stanley Cups. He said those GMs won Stanley Cups and admitted to using those stats. He never said there was a causal relationship between the 2 (i.e. that the stats led directly to the Cups). Big difference when you change a few words around. |

I don't see many places he'd have a legit short at being the starter or really even a 1a.
If the Isles sign Halak, not a ton of openings.

The goalie market is super weak right now. Calgary might need a goalie and depending on Harding's situation Minne might need one as well. The Canes probably want to trade Cam Ward but they'll be doing it for pennies on the dollar if they do at all. |

i agree...there's such a a glut of ufa goalies, he might be forced to lower his price if he wants a gig. i'm sure he doesn't want to go back russia. those polar bear pads are cool, but not THAT cool.
the islanders should try to sign halak. i'm sure he doesn't want to play there, but after becoming a bit of a suitcase, he seems to be running out of options. might not have much choice. |

Here is the direct quote from the post. The key word is "by"

So Hextall is all about analytics, huh? I'll take that as an even bigger sign he'll be pushing Vinny towards a trade. |

i think we're all really on the same page here. they're valuable, they're being used, and it's only going to continue. the question is, are these stats being misused by actual hockey people? who the (frank) knows. nobody worth their salt is going to blindly used them to make decisions. |

No need to visit a new thread to read the same moronic denials about stats and cherry picking a few outliers to defend your opinions |

Halak to Isles, Miller to Ducks, Hiller to either Canucks or Blues, Montoya to Isles again, Emery resigns, McElhinney resigns in Columbus, and Flyers should keep their eyes on Peters just in case Razor is too expensive. Greiss is also a possibility but I think he will resign in Phoenix. Just speculation of course. |

why would Miller go to the Ducks? They'll run with Andersen/Gibson, I'd think. |

i don't think he's "all about analytics", but is going to embrace and utilize them more than what's been done here in the past. this is a good thing. he's probably leaning to moving him....the question is what will he be able to get in return? if it's nothing, we might have to keep him another year and hope he rebounds. |

Pretty sure the Flames are going to roll with Ramo with Ortio or McDonald backing up. McDonald is ufa.
Also Bryz is playing well and could earn a starter job in Minny if he gets it done in the playoffs. |
