I'm on the fence with Emery. I thought he played better than his numbers may suggest. If they can sign him to a 2-3 yr deal around 1mil then I'd be fine with that. If not then I'm sure he will find another home as a quality backup and the Flyers find someone under 1mil. Although, the UFA market for goalies under the 1mil aren't the greatest.
I'd give Thomas Greiss a look, or Curtis McElhinney |

They absolutely have to get a more athletic goalie who can cope with all the powerplays the Flyers concede.
Montoya and Greiss are two guys I would go after. |

With so many ufa goalies out there, my guess is Emery is offered maybe 2 years at 1.1 mil per. If he can get a better deal somewhere else so be it, and the Flyers will sign some other vet backup - BiggE
I wouldn't mind another year of Emery, even at the same 1.5. The issue is his side-to-side mobility, which the Rangers exploited.
It comes down to the money. If the team can find a more agile guy with similar skills for about the same $$, I think they have to go for it.

I think this is a matter that they decide on after the draft. They should see how the team's roster changes (if at all) at the draft. Perhaps they nab a backup in a deal.
I really like Emery as a teammate. The guy is 100% all the time. If he is willing to be right around $1mil per for a season or two and they do not acquire another goalie I would be fine with that. |

I'd like to have Emery back, personally.
I think having a competent backup goaltender, someone who you know won't fold under pressure, could be the difference between making or missing the playoffs, under the current format. |

Emery and his .903 SV% was almost the reason we missed the playoffs. And he's so slow laterally that any shootout with him in net is a guaranteed loss. |

He played well in the playoffs. If you're referring to those two power play goals I don't think any goalie would have a chance against them.
I'll agree that his lateral movement isn't the best, but of all the ufa goalies I think he is one of the better ones, for that kind of money. |

Yea! It was Emery's fault! And not the first 15 games to start the season that almost cost them the season....... Or maybe....... it was Emery's beat down of Holtby that saved the season and jumped started the team |

I tend to agree. Despite his faults with lateral movement, i think he can be a very serviceable guy. I also think his team mates love having him around. |

What?! You mean we can have a perennial Vezina candidate as our backup who will play for a cap friendly backup salary and give us a chance to win when he gets in the game?
Get him in here! Screw Emery!

I disagree with this premise -- is he the goalie Mason is? No, of course not. As was detailed in the blog, there are things that Emery can't do that can be exploited.
But at the same time, there were some games where the Flyers simply didn't play well in front of Emery, as well. A backup goaltender sometimes gets games where winning isn't quite as easy -- second night of a back-to-back, or final night of three-in-four -- where sometimes, the scenarios just aren't ideal.
I don't mean to make excuses for Emery -- it might be that there are better options. But I do think that Emery's toughness, willingness to be a good teammate and veteran experience are very tangible assets.

I would be happy to have Emery back. Homer has often elected for the cheaper backup options. I would like to see them pay a little more than usual in order to get a better backup. I like Stalock. He handles the puck well like Mason. The team won't need to adjust their strategy as much on dump-ins with him in net.
I guess we'll get our first look at how much Hexy values a backup. |

My fiancee swears that the Holtby smack-down turned this team around this season. I would like to keep Emery but I would also understand if he went his own way to find greener pastures. |

Do you honestly believe that any backup the Flyers bring in, won't have some weaknesses or areas in their game that can be exploited? There's a reason why backups are backups, and not starters. They have their strengths and weaknesses like any player. Emery may not have the athleticism to go side to side, but he brings qulaities in other areas of the game, that are beneficial as a backup. Best way to not have a goalie have to go side to side, is play better defensively, and play with the puck more. |

Paying a little more then usual for a backup means that they have to pay less somewhere else. Barring an injury, can we expect Mason to play 55-60 games? So the backup plays 20-25 games? I'd rather spend a little extra on the players who are expected to be in the lineup for every game. |

Thanks for the updates on the world's Bill. I have to admit I wouldn't even know they were going on without you.
It's good to know that not everyone began golfing immediately, and the experience that B Schenn and Read will get can only be good things.
