You do need a decent backup. But you don't have to spend 1.65M to get one. Especially when you have other needs. - MJL
it's a tough call - at this point Mason is the #1 and I don't have much interest in a 1A/1B, but you need to have someone ready to step up and take the reigns for long periods of time in the event of injury. This organization doesn't have that luxury. Would be really nice to get a good youngish netminder that would fill the gap between Heeter and Mason. Anaheim is the obvious organization to be jealous of. Just loads of talent at that position (and D and Forwards while we're at it). |

that's sad news for msl.
bo went crazy this morning over this tidbit from the story:
St. Louis, 38, a 5-foot-8, 180-pound future Hall of Famer originally born in Laval, Quebec, joined the Rangers at this year’s deadline in a major trade with the Tampa Bay Lightning. |

i think andersen is hurt now? forcing giblet into backup duty.
i either want a guy like stalock (whom i don't think is available or would want to come here) or greiss that can probably handle a long look, or a veteran type like guigere or nabakov who know their roll, will have a good relationship with mason and have the experience to get the job done. |

yes, his leg buckled in the third period. looked bad. also a real tough position to put Hiller in. That's twice now that Hiller has been 'benched' and had to come back into the playoffs and win. Mentally that must be a real challenge. |

from seravalli today: interesting, and who knew?
Under Holmgren, the Flyers are the only NHL team to use a Catapult training system, with hardware placed in the shoulder pads of each player at practice to determine workload, heart rate, distance traveled and impact from hits. They haven't quite found a way to utilize all of the copious amounts of data, except to better predict when players might need a day off from practice to avoid overuse injuries. It seemed to work, since the Flyers did noticeably cut back on groin and hamstring strains this season. |

I caught that today too. I don't know if the man-games lost stat backs it up but the team did seem extraordinarily healthy this year. |

Apparently the NFL uses it in conjunction with GPS:

I'm a big Danny Briere fan and I'd like to think I'm smart enough to know two facts: He's a flawed player and he's (much) closer to the end of his career than to his prime. |

It's the "or how he dragged his linemates down with him -- here's an example of how he did that to Brayden Schenn" link.

Correct. He's the guy who insisted all year long that Mason was terrible and will always be terrible. |
