Are we looking at the same Simon Gamache who put up those junior numbers 14 years ago and who has been with 4 different NHL franchises? His numbers since don't seem all that special to me. - MBFlyerfan

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Hartnell Assessment - bmeltzer
Scott Hartnell, Steve Downie, Nicholas Grossman, Zac Rinaldo, Luke Schenn, Brayden Schenn, Jay Rosehill, Brayden Coburn, Mark Streit and Vincent Lecavalier. All regulars at the dog house bar and grill. Normally not enough seats are available because everyone wants them to be there but it's not a reality that they should all get in. Scott Hartnell has been a VIP regular here for at least seven years now.
Now, some fans objectively and rightfully so puts some of our players in their own personal dog house but some do it because they hate the nose on the face of a certain player.
I personally feel most fans have such a blind dislike for a player that they'd rather be right about how bad a player is (true or not) then to see the team successful. |

A+. I salute you sir. FWIW, although I don't like Downie at all (never have), I was really hoping that he'd turn it around, although I didn't expect him to.
Trade Hartnell he's useless. |

Downie has hearing loss from multiple concussions. He couldn't hear the orders being barked out by the Chief. |

I don't see Hartnell finishing his contract here. When was the last time any player played 12 full seasons with the Flyers, let alone a power forward who came here in his mid 20s? Even Gagne only made it 10. Bill Barber ranks 2nd all time in games played for the Flyers, and he played 12 seasons. |

Well not being serious about not hearing the orders, but he has hearing loss, he's going for some surgical procedure to see if it will improve his hearing. |

Yes, but the multiple concussions made his hearing worse from what I understand. I read he's having some kind of surgery to try and improve his hearing....
Flyers have a hell of a team Audiologist they use... Some McCrossin fella. |

I know he has hearing issues. Hey check this one out:
"I hear he has cancer, and his chemo didn't let him get up and play."
See, 'cause it's funny to make fun of horrible disorders! |

He's always wearing a striped shirt, traveling around the world and trying to blend in so no one sees him. I'm convinced he escaped from jail. |

No, really. It's funny to take a guy's hearing disorder, and then to use it as a one-liner. Really, it's funny. |

I've only had 1 of those and Carter got traded. It's out of my system I SWEAR! I tend to defend players now...
I just shake my head at the Grossmann hate. I like the guy! |

Always good to see some thought out, reasonable post about whether or not a team should look into trading a guy get answered with
"YEAH, LET'S JUST GIVE HIM AWAY!!!!!"
Hartnell is an odd case, because year to year he consistently puts up his 20-25 goal and 50 or so points and plays physical, but in the course of the season he is inconsistent and undisciplined.
If Hartnell is dealt, he could actually have good value. Unlike Lecavalier, who I think will end up being a salary dump, a Hartnell deal would have to be a good hockey deal. |
