Exactly. That's my fear. At that point, you're forced to match. And it's not beyond reason to see a team like Buffalo do it. - jmatchett383
I don't think another team is going to OS him unless they feel they can sign him. Anything less than a first round pick will be matched by the Flyers. |

Well, they would be forced to match. But if you're a team like NYI, who could use him and have the space, I'd consider doing it, if for no other reason than to make the Flyers either commit to signing him for more than they want or to get him for a 3rd rounder. If nothing else, it hurts the Flyers either way (on the surface). |

Yeah, success rate would be 0%, almost not worth pissing your peers off for that. |

Dangerous game to play with the Flyers. They can turn around and do the same thing to the Islanders in the years to come. |

Exactly and it ties you up for a week. You don't know whether you have the guy or not.
It wouldn't matter as much during the end of FA though. |

And really, why would you even want to? It's fine to drop an offer sheet to Shea Weber -- I'm not being hypocritical, because Shea Weber's maybe the best defensemen in the game.
But you drop offer sheets on guys like Steven Stamkos, when he was up a few years ago. You drop an offer sheet on Alex Pietrangelo, last summer.
Why on God's Green Earth would you drop an offer sheet on Brayden Schenn? What Bill said was kinda harsh but true: He's just another 20-goal scorer right now.
You can effing draft Brayden Schenn with the pick(s) you're burning by signing him to the offer sheet!

And Hamonic. It wouldn't even be to sign them. It would be just enough to piss them off and have to overpay. |

The same reason you offer sheet Kesler, or Gratton, or ROR. Good young players with upside (well, Gratton...bleh) who you can get the rights to without an outrageous price tag. |

Yeah. I feel it would just be a Richard move by the other team. I don't think anyone would expect the Flyers to let Schenn walk for a 3rd rounder instead of paying him $2.75M |

im sure it will be matched. it would be foolish for the flyers to let him go for only a third. but still, unless schenn is just dead set on being a flyer, i wouldnt sign for 1.75 a year.
we all expect at least some level of forward progress for him. but thats an underpayment even if his production remains static. |

SJ did it to Chicago. Tied up their money and basically made them choose Hjalmarsson or Niemi. Not saying the Flyers are in the same spot, but it's been done. |

i dont see a scenario in which brayden schenn isnt with the flyers next year, but not at a salary that starts with a 1. |

They'll get a deal done.
Ironically, Hextall was a part of the Kings when they negotiated his awful ELC. They put in a bunch of unobtainable clauses to raise the cap hit. It was designed to help Schenn's camp during these present negotiations. |

Thats a little different though. It was part of a strategic move to get one of those guys.
I remember people advocating the Flyers offer a ridiculous OS to Stamkos, which would have been matched, then go after Hedman because he was due for a big raise as well. |
