How the hell is that top notch scouting?
Not saying anything good or bad about the guy, but in what walk of life is something considered a success when there are no results yet? - Lahey
Ya you can't say his picks were top notch yet, but at the moment it looks like there is some real great picks in there. Especially with Wotherspoon, Gaudreau, Seiloff and Gillies.
Those 4 alone would be VERY valuable on the trade market right now, and none of them were drafted in the first round. |

I would like to point out that Boomer this morning got a little bit of information out Conroy in the morning
Boomer "So in your interviews do your guy and Trevilings guy have the same first name"
Conroy "No they don't (3 second pause). I'm not going to tell you that."
Let the rumors start! - tmurph
I heard Conny on the Fan this morning as well....
What I took away from it was that it seemed his list of "6" slowly widdeled away to a list of "4" hahaha.
Sounds to me like the Flames are pretty content with whoever falls to them at 4. After hearing that interview I would even put Dal Colle out of the picture. It's gonna be whoever is left out of Draisaitl, Bennett, Ekblad or Reinhart. And personally I'm fine with it!!
It actually a decent position from the Flames perspective. The top 3 teams are going to have a lot more questioning/second guessing/scrutinizing with their picks cause really I think its a toss up with the top 4! |

I guess I wasn't clear. The combine interviews were yesterday. I beleive each team is allowed to interview 30 players (or something like that). Boomer was trying to get some info out of conroy for who they are leaning towards in the daft. Conroy is the best source for everything because he has the best position in sports front office.
He just kinda does what is required and has zero responsibility. Eventually he will take over in some upper management position with the flames (GM, Scouting, PR, ETC). Last year I got to chat with him during the the prospect camp during stampede. |

That's a fair point, and if you would have phrased it that way it would have been met with a fair response. But you didn't, so your uneducated dikhead comments had to be dealt with .
There's a reason why most Canadian teams wait too long, the pressure to win and win now is so high in these markets that teams often hold on to ageing assets for too long in hopes of making just 1 more push (Oilers, Flames, and now the Canucks).
Teams in large american markets, whose fans have other major league sports to distract them can afford to take a step back and restock their cupboards without facing much scrutiny. Chicago, St louis, and LA were all bad for a long time, and nobody really noticed/cared.
...And to many kids on this site? I'm not the one going over to other teams boards and trashing them, and believe me the Islanders are an easy target. - Saskabush

I dont think there is a limit on interviews. I think Stu McGregor said they had 82 interviews scheduled. |

I thought they were making changes to how teams deal with prospects. I remember reading that teams were mad that other teams were spending money on flying guys around and having special meetings. It caught me off guard because we are talking about spending thousands of dollars which is lots, but is really nothing when your NHL player spending is 60mil. |

I don't think it's a big deal when you draft in the top 2 or 3 to have prospects visit your city.....kinda dumb if your New Jersey and you wanna wine and dine Ekblad tho. |

He should go in with the beard. Especially to K.Lowe and MacT. He can proven that he is more of a man then the other guys we've drafted the pass 5 years. Probably has more ass hair then those guys can grow on their faces combined. |

Lahey just wants to make pretty braids on his ass and tie them off with colorful threads like he and his boy toys do at slumber parties. |

Did you watch the TSN interview with Treliving?
He was saying something along the lines of seeing if players knew what kind of role they might fill in the future....
for example if they look like they're projecting as a shutdown defensive defensemen, but say they're like Drew Doughty...is that a warning sign?
Meanwhile they are replaying clips of Ekblad
And I think I recall Ekblad saying he molds himself after Pietrangelo/Doughty in a previous interview
Thoughts on this? Was Treliving taking about Ekblad? Is he a shutdown D or more pucking moving offensive D?
sidenote: Bennett couldn't do a single pull-up o.O
Wouldn't you train for that? at least make sure you can do ONE!? |

How is that even possible? I mean, come on, I have no trouble doing a pull up, and I'm not training to become a professional athlete |

yea...what's embarrassing is watching him try
and all these reporters taking pictures from behind him (part of the TSN clip lol)
his arms are like straws
I know you can take it two ways....
On one side, he dominates and he doesn't even have strength yet....imagine what he can do when he gets stronger
On the flip side, why weren't you training yourself prior to the combine so you don't embarrass yourself? Workout until you can at least do ONE!!!! work ethic or common sense issues?

That's where the interview becomes important, if you feel the kid has the drive to put in the effort it takes to become a pro, then it is a positive. If you think the kid is lazy then....
Also, I remember a requirement for passing grade 10 gym was to do a freakin pull up, (or at least attempt one) and the leader of my class was 110 lbs soaking wet, and had arms and legs like toothpicks. I guess I just expect more with the way most of these prospects train & take care of themselves these days... |

I think RNH had trouble at the bench press if I remember correctly. Which, for a skinny guy, is a whole other ball game. As I said if he's got the desire, this becomes a positive. If it's from cutting corners/laziness it becomes a negative. Because all the skill in the world will only get you so far if your not willing to work as hard as the guys around you. |
