Part of the reason they valued the other positions is the generally longer wait time for a defenseman or goalie to develop and become a NHL regular or impact player. On the whole, forward reach the NHL and mak a faster impact than D or G.

Speaking of forwards, is Leier turning pro?

This you downplaying the play of Richie here, the typical " we traded him so he sucks" rationale.

Hey, if that's how you want to rationalize it fine.

My rationale that you didn't ask for but I'm giving anyway is Richards is still one of my favorites, and I still wear his name and number. He gave us his best years and, on a nightly scale, his best effort out there. He was a great Flyer and wish him nothing but success. I clapped for him from my couch when he lifted the Cup and I'll have no problems doing it a second time.

The flyers made those trades to get younger, more skilled, and deeper. And it worked- we have a very, very promising nucleus of kids, of which the majority came from those trades.

I'd pull them both again.

Rationalize how you want, but downplaying Richards' play as a Flyer and essentially saying he was nothing special is asinine.

- Giroux_Is_God

I only read the first two lines and this was enough. Where exactly did I say that Richards or Carter suck? I welcome you to point this out. I just didn't feel the same excitement when they were leading the charge. Not the same as Lindros, not the same as Roenick, not the same as Briere and not even the same as Giroux.

This is simply how I feel.

What is it with you guys and trying to change the minds of fellow fans and basically try to tell how fellow fans feel are wrong. Do I debate when someone says Simmonds isn't a good enough or skilled enough player? You damn right I do! However if Simmonds doesn't excite you, then he doesn't excite you.

The end.

Yeah, Jeff Carter never scored a big game winner in regular season
- Jsaquella

I wouldn't say clutching/grabbing so much as "accentuating" and "embellishing." Now, Montreal was guilty of this as well, but Derek Dorsett, in particular, is getting to Claude Lemieux standards with faking, and the rest of the team isn't far behind. It's why I respect a guy like MSL who doesn't go for that and just plays the game hard.

Guys please show me who exactly is doing all this diving and embellishing your talking about??? The officiating has been pretty lopsided against the Rangers so far.

Well, he had the most goals in one season of any Flyer since the lockout. But most people will agree that they were all late-game insurance goals and empty netters, so...yeah.

Maybe the fact that they were the first team since the lockout to get 2 unsportsmanlike penalties for embellishing in one game. The fact that a stick came up 4 inches in front of Dorsett's face and he threw his head back like he'd been shot. Dan Carcillo pulled a few Supermans out there for "trips" before he got himself suspended.

Again, it's not every player, guy like Staal/McD/MSL are good, hard-noised players who play hard. But then you've got Boyle/Zuccarello/Brassard/Stepan who seem like my 7-month-old daughter could knock them down their skating is so weak.

Aside from breaking his face, what did Ian Lapperriere ever do that was memorable? I don't remember many spectacular things from him, so I guess we wasn't all that good. Same with Braydon Coburn, he's never been memorable.

In the first round both Miller and Dorsett were auditioning for Tony nominations.

Now we're digging deep. Coburn and Laperriere were never expected to lead us to a Cup in a top line role or top six role.

Scratch Carter Hutton as a possible Flyer back up goalie option. Re-signed by Nashville, two years, cash not released

He doesn't remember the OT winner against the Caps in the playoffs after which, while being interviewed on television, he was hit with a beer bottle thrown by a Caps partisan and said, "Real classy" before continuing on with the interview unperturbed.

Uh, Coburn has been in the team's top four defense-mostly top pair- for the last 6 or 7 years

Really? The Rangers had 29 PP's in the first round, compared to 10 for the Flyers...I'd say a 3-1 disparity means that in at least one round, the Rangers got the benefit of the calls.
- Jsaquella

Pens' series was 26 PP for the Rags and 20 for the Pens...must be because the Penguins are such a dirty team and the league gives them all the benefit of the doubt.

Joffrey Lupul was hit with a beer bottle?
