Well, he had the most goals in one season of any Flyer since the lockout. But most people will agree that they were all late-game insurance goals and empty netters, so...yeah.
- jmatchett383

You've gotta go looking for this though. I remember Gagne scoring 41 goals on a last place team. It was just right there for us all to see by season's end.

I wouldn't say clutching/grabbing so much as "accentuating" and "embellishing." Now, Montreal was guilty of this as well, but Derek Dorsett, in particular, is getting to Claude Lemieux standards with faking, and the rest of the team isn't far behind. It's why I respect a guy like MSL who doesn't go for that and just plays the game hard.
- jmatchett383

I remember a play in which he embellished against the Flyers and I asked how the hell he ever would get a Lady Byng nomination.

Pens' series was 26 PP for the Rags and 20 for the Pens...must be because the Penguins are such a dirty team and the league gives them all the benefit of the doubt.
- jmatchett383

I was wrong, it was 29-21 in terms of PP's for the Rangers in round one....still an advantage, but not as drastic.

Interesting. The one thing with Richie, is I don't know how happy he would be coming back to the Flyers.

Two, his game and speed seem to have dropped off.

- flyer_nutter

You're right that he may not want to come back to the Flyers with the way things ended. He wasn't happy at all about being traded. I was just thinking about from a hockey standpoint. Who knows though? Maybe Hextall would be able to mend fences a bit.

I haven't seen a ton of LA Kings and he may have slowed down more than I realize but I think at least some of his decline in numbers can be explained by the system he plays in. Richards had a 66 point season his last year in Philly and he dropped to 45-50 point player the following year. He was only 25 or 26 at the time and as far as I know, he didn't have any career-altering injury that would explain such a sudden drop off. The Kings just aren't a team that scores a lot. I don't think Richards is ever going to produce at the point-per-game pace he did in 07-08 and the following year but I wouldn't be surprised if he could at least get close to the level of offensive production from his final season in Philly. His game has always been predicated more on smarts and competitiveness than speed and skill so that would bode well for his ability to bounce back in the right situation.

I care about what memorable. The top was Carter and Richards and I simply gave my opinion of how I viewed them. Nothing more, nothing less.
- SuperSchennBros

So if the Flyers play boring hockey and win every game on unspectacular, nothing point shot goals, the only player you'd like would be the goalie since the others wouldn't be memorable?

Joffrey Lupul was hit with a beer bottle?
- jmatchett383

Oh God! I didn't conflate Wides and Lups did I? I don't think so. But someone will remember.

Uh, Coburn has been in the team's top four defense-mostly top pair- for the last 6 or 7 years

I care about winning, and Richards and Carter did as much to help the Flyers win during their time here as anyone else on the roster.

Oops. Jeff was hit with a beer bottle during the postgame 2008 but he must have done absolutely nothing noteworthy to earn the distinction.

I miss Lups, too. It's funny that both of them wear "A"s now.

To be fair, I've noticed a lot of diving and whining in general during these playoffs. That said, the Rangers definitely stood out to me.

His possession numbers for Philly were fine (almost 50%) in the regular season outside of the last game against Pittsburgh where they were rampant and he had to play 28 minutes on the 1st pairing because Kimmo was hurt. He looked worn down against the Rangers and struggled, but so did other guys including Couturier.

Expecting him to have a CF% over 50 when playing most often with guys like Luke Schenn and Vinny Lecavalier is silly.

Don't ruin it. Corsi says that MacDonald was a bad signing and that's that.

I don't think there is any doubt that Richards could still be a 20 goal, 50-60 point player on the right team. As well as bringing the intangibles that he brings.

Well, considering that contract, he may find himself a free agent and be in a position to prove it with another team.

This brings up a thought I hadn't considered which is moving Couturier up to the second line and putting Simmonds with him. I like this idea although I would put Read with him alongside Simmonds.

Carter scored an OT winner against New Jersey the year they went to the finals right? Maybe it was regular season? Smokebomb game maybe?

Edit: Around 4:45. OT winner right after the smoke bomb Was wrong about the cup year thing. But I remembered this play involving Jeff Carter

I'd like to see Couturier, Read, and Voracek. Get a decent LW with some speed to play with Giroux, and put Simmonds on the RW. Play Hartnell with Schenn, and maybe Raffl.
