Honestly, Jussi Jokinen would be my first choice. Good player, can score, plays solid two way hockey, bonus is his shootout prowess, any situation, good skater and can play C if needed.
- Jsaquella

Jokinen might be able to really help Schenn and Simmonds, too -- they really need someone on that wing who sees the ice well

Man. Like you said earlier: Good team, but damn, we have some flaws

If they can dump Vinny and Grossmann, they can make a couple moves and be solid enough to make a bit of noise

Pouliot would be a good fall back from Jokinen. I'd really like Jokinen, especially if they can get him for $4.25-$4.5mm or so
- Jsaquella

I like Jokinen also, but I wonder with all the factors being considered - age, size, skating ability, price tag whether Pouliot might be the target.

I'm not sure I'm comfortable going more then $4 million/yr for Jokinen. Much higher, I would pass and start looking for a better bargain.

They are completely unwatchable. The Mets have beaten them from pillar to post the last few season. The (frank)ing Mets who are the punchlines of baseball.

That would certainly provide a lot more flexibility Cap wise. If you can trade VL and sign Jussi Jokinen the remaining moves can focus on D and building organizational depth.

I don't really think that Jokinen will cost that much. I really don't see GM's willing to go that high for a guy who cleared waivers twice in his career. He was playing with Malkin this year so that obviously had an impact on his offense. There is a pretty significant chance of him coming onto the team and being a complete bust, especially if he wants a multi year deal.

That being said, I would be happy to take him for 2.5 to 3mil. Maybe 3.5mil max. I think that is the area he will sign a new deal for.

I would much rather spend the cash to add Pouliot to our team. I think he will sign for 2.5mil to 3mil as well. Would be really sweet if we could get them both.

Sam Bennett is dominating competition and can't even do a pull up. I think that is more of a plus than a detriment. It means he is winning battles based on hockey sense and skill and not from shear strength. Yes, it may mean he takes an extra year to develop, but muscle can be added, and pretty quickly too. The skill and hockey sense are the rare traits.

Just hope Lee gets healthy and Paplebon keeps doing what he's doing. if those 2 things happen a solid(new) GM can start the rebuild. Heck, Yankees need a 1st baseman bad. Tell them you can have Lee free if you take Ryan Howard.

its crazy that they got him on waivers, and had CAR eat a third of the salary.

2 of the most desirable free agents out there, that the pens have no shot at retaining. were basically dumpster diving reclamation projects.

It does a little bit of trepidation on my part considering who Jokinen's center was this season. Niskanen gets a Weideman type deal in free agency IMO. A head scratcher with a NTC.

niskanen i could see. his career was at a crossroads at the time. he could have easily been a washout.

jokinen, he has been a decent if unspectacular nhler throughout his career. i dont know why that many teams let him pass waivers.

it will be painful to lose jokinen. such a versatile player.

niskanen is pretty darn good, but his deal, yeah. there is no way the team "wins" in that deal.

yeah, jussi may have gotten a few more points getting to play with malkin. but he is still a good player in his own right. he is someone who can go up and down the lineup. has the skill to be slotted next to giroux and not be out of place. should the need arise, you can shift him down and have him play a third line, shutdown center role in a pinch.

good at faceoffs. and will help the shootout.

Here's my trepidation. Voracek is signed at $4.25 million. Simmonds at $3.975. Read at $3.625 million. I have a hard time sliding Jokinen's salary over any of these guys.

I hope the Flyers are in the bidding process, but anything above $3.5 million, I think Hexy has to walk away and go another route.

fair enough. but you also have to consider it a blessing. that all of those deals are very, very, team friendly. simmonds may just be one of the top 3 or 4 in the entire league. all would fetch more if they were UFA right now.

3.5 is where i would feel comfortable too. i think he can get 4 from someone too. a 3 year, 13 million dollar deal or something will probably be a commonplace offer for him.

All signed as pending RFAs, which definitely lowers the price a tad. I get the idea behind salary slotting, and agree with it to some extent. But at the same time, if I can get a guy that can slot in as a good top six winger and provide what Jokinen can, I'm hard pressed to decline it if it's a bit higher than ideal.

wayne simmonds for literally less than 4 million a year. i know homer gave out some head scratchers, but that one. ugh.

It's doable at $6 million with a series of conditions, like being able to trade VL with no $$ retention, signing Kimmo for $3 or less and some roster juggling to start the season. Lines could be

Cammalleri-G-Simmonds
Read-Couts-Voracek
Hartnell-Raffl-Schenn
Hall-Moore-Rinaldo

or something like it.

- jstross

At the risk of upsetting those who want a lot of change but...I don't want a bunch of changes. If possible I'd like to upgrade and add. Sorry if this upsets anyone.

I think anyone of Benoit Pouliot, Nikolai Kulemin and Jussi Jokinen could all turn out to be busts. Could I be wrong, of course. At the same time, none of which have consistently been good over a long stretch of their careers.

I wouldn't kick yourselves over it. You guys have serious talent and depth as a result of that trade. Richards is a buy out candidate. Those 2 guys just fit very well in that lineup in LA

i don't think many do. we got a lot of assets in return, got younger and avoided having 2 more expensive very long term nmc/ntc contracts. holmgren didn't trade them as a package deal - he didn't trade carter to la.

i was happy with the moves then. i'm happy with them now.
