Voynov, Martinez and Muzzin are still pretty green... I could see youthful mistakes break a game or two open in a series where goals will be hard to come by.
I also don't understand how a team can get away with using Willie Mitchell for 20mins/per in the PO's... guy is terrible. - Tomahawk
Perhaps, but they looked pretty good against some very good teams. |

I loved Lineman as a player (hence my moniker) however bringing a washed up version of him back from Boston for Dave Poulin may have been the worst trade the Flyers ever made. |

I think the games, themselves, might be close, but I think, up and down the lineup, that the Kings are just a better, more tested team than the Rangers.

I was not amused by that trade, either.

Exactly. They won't blow out the Rags, but the Kings will find a way to win. It's just what they do. |

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Richards and Carter Revisited, Recalling Shero "Trade" - bmeltzer
From a team standpoint, Richards and Carter never excited me. With big names, if not bigger names here at the same time as them and before, I never felt like they were right to lead the charge. Chris Pronger made the defense better no matter how important the game was. Peter Forsberg, world class talent. Danny Briere, big game talent, especially in the playoffs. Claude Giroux makes everyone around him better. Carter and Richards are very good players but I don't feel they have th he same impact as the players I've mentioned.
My an independent standpoint, Richards hits, defensive play and shorthanded goals were run to watch but to me were always enough. Carter can score but the goals never felt ss clutch. I don't remember very many big Jeff Carter big moments. I can't say the same with Briere, Giroux and Pronger. These guys always came out big in a big way at big times. |

That and swapping McCrimmon for a couple of draft picks were 2 of Clarke's worst deals during his first stint as GM |

That McCrimmon deal was the first time I ever found a need to separate Bobby Clarke & Bob Clarke...trading two first rounders for Ken Wreggett also was a questionable value move |

I just looked this up: He was a +43 in 1989 with Calgary when they won the Cup.
He obviously had plenty left. |

That still gives me goosebumps.
That goal, and the Poulin SH goal against Quebec are all-timers for me. |

Yes. This is great. I remember it like yesterday and getting a lot of shorthanded goals by Richards while he was here is amazing as I mentioned but for this one "shift", Briere and Giroux have like ten more much bigger moments. Even Simon Gagne and Jeremy Roenick have a number of big moments as a Flyer. Lindros and LeClair, same thing. |

He also played with Pronger and Lidstrom when they were coming into the league. |

Yeah, me too. That one really stung. Up till then, I thought he had made some very nice trades
Sittler for Craven and Patterson
Rich Sutter for a pick and Daigneault
Froese for a pick and K Samuelsson
but that one, man, that one just hurt and was just a terrible deal. To his credit, years later he admitted that he really hadn't appreciated how vital McCrimmon was to that team and that he just should have bit the bullet and gave him the deal he wanted. |

I can sign up for some Jeff Carter bashing. I'll even help.
But Richards always played up to moments. He was a fantastic player here. |

I read rumor that mike green could be a target of the Flyers. He has a 6.25 cap hit. I know his injury history and defense troubles but would you take a risk on him. Say the Caps keep some of the cap. If you don't need to give anything major do you think it could be done. Maybe 2nd Rounder and some sort of player combo. I wouldn't do it if they wanted big pieces or top prospects. |

That trade happened purely because Clarkie had a stick up his ass about his contract demands.

Like I said, since the topic is Richards and Carter, I think the two could easily be outshined by many Flyers of the past. |

Big moments are all well and good, but you also need good, consistent play, to win games. I don't recall many big Pronger moments, just rock steady play for 30 minutes a night during the 2010 playoffs. |

I was probably one of the few who said I would have rather kept Carter over Richards when the deals were made. I still feel that way if I was forced to chose.

I'm with you. Carter is a pure goal scorer and, as LA has proved, he can play the wing. Richards, to me, was more expendable. |

No thanks. Green makes Streit look like Rod Langway when it comes to defensive play. |
