I read rumor that mike green could be a target of the Flyers. He has a 6.25 cap hit. I know his injury history and defense troubles but would you take a risk on him. Say the Caps keep some of the cap. If you don't need to give anything major do you think it could be done. Maybe 2nd Rounder and some sort of player combo. I wouldn't do it if they wanted big pieces or top prospects. - J35Bacher
Yeah, I'd keep a close eye on any team that just got a new GM to be trying to move some $$$ pieces out that the former GM felt married to.
Green is much-maligned, but I'd welcome him on this team in a heartbeat... as long as we don't have to gut the team to get him. |

Big moments are all well and good, but you also need good, consistent play, to win games. I don't recall many big Pronger moments, just rock steady play for 30 minutes a night during the 2010 playoffs. - Jsaquella
Pronger's game winner with a second or two against Chicago during the regular season. Nice pass from Giroux. Puck stealing. Solid play. Post game interviews. I found him a much more memorable Player. |

Yeah, Jeff Carter never scored a big game winner in regular season |

I'd take a one year flyer on him but not sure how he fits under the cap. Unless caps retain some $ |

LA is eliminated long ago without the contributions of Gaborik. Lombardi added him for I believe Frattin and a second round pick. So basically the Kings got him for nothing. - PLindbergh31
How is Frattin and a 2nd round pick considered nothing? |

I'd have Byfuglien ahead of him, but Green's warts are not as bad as advertised, especially if a do it all guy is not obtainable |

Yes. This is great. I remember it like yesterday and getting a lot of shorthanded goals by Richards while he was here is amazing as I mentioned but for this one "shift", Briere and Giroux have like ten more much bigger moments. Even Simon Gagne and Jeremy Roenick have a number of big moments as a Flyer. Lindros and LeClair, same thing. - SuperSchennBros
This you downplaying the play of Richie here, the typical " we traded him so he sucks" rationale.
Hey, if that's how you want to rationalize it fine.
My rationale that you didn't ask for but I'm giving anyway is Richards is still one of my favorites, and I still wear his name and number. He gave us his best years and, on a nightly scale, his best effort out there. He was a great Flyer and wish him nothing but success. I clapped for him from my couch when he lifted the Cup and I'll have no problems doing it a second time.
The flyers made those trades to get younger, more skilled, and deeper. And it worked- we have a very, very promising nucleus of kids, of which the majority came from those trades.
I'd pull them both again.
Rationalize how you want, but downplaying Richards' play as a Flyer and essentially saying he was nothing special is asinine. |

Yeah, he's no Nik Lidstrom but he knows his way around his own zone. He's no worse defensively than a number of guys that are lusted for around here: Subban in particular.
The injury history is the only thing that would give me pause. |

Yeah, Kings have the edge down the middle... but Rangers are deeper/steadier on the back-end. Their goalie is better, too. - Tomahawk
I disagree. Doughty is arguably the best defenseman in the NHL right now with the way he's playing. Muzzin is coming on strong. Willie Mitchell is underrated, and Voynov is a strong player also. And Martinez and Greene make a solid 3rd pair. |

I like Richards, loved the way he played the game when he was here. I just think that his skill set is easier to replace than Carter's. It's harder to find smooth skating, 6'3 200lbs players who are pure snipers, than 5'11, 195 lbs 2 way centermen IMO. |

No arguments here.
I just hate what we saw when the Isles gave us Streit. All their fans were like AHHHH HE SUCKS WE SO WIN THIS TRADE. That viewpoint- he sucks since we traded him- is shortsighted. That's more what I was talking about. |

Caps fans actually like Green and think he's dragged down by having a poor partner. I think his partner was Orlov.
Green isn't the most physical and has some trouble skating backwards. It's strange for a guy with such straight line speed to struggle skating backwards. |

I personally think it was a mistake that they didn't keep Bernier and trade him instead when they had the chance. - Tomahawk
Are you saying they should've traded Quick instead? And kept Bernier? No way. Quick is about ready to have his name etched on the Cup for the 2nd time as a starting goaltender. |

I'm with you. Carter is a pure goal scorer and, as LA has proved, he can play the wing. Richards, to me, was more expendable. - BiggE
And in hindsight......going by the way they are playing now....

Voynov, Martinez and Muzzin are still pretty green... I could see youthful mistakes break a game or two open in a series where goals will be hard to come by.
I also don't understand how a team can get away with using Willie Mitchell for 20mins/per in the PO's... guy is terrible. - Tomahawk
I must be watching a different Willie Mitchell. He's an underrated player and one of the unsung heroes on that team. |

Tyler Dellow graphs the NHL's most famous defensemen:
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3
(Kimmo, Coburn, AMac, Pronger, and a bunch of guys we're looking at this summer are in there.) |
