Tyler Dellow graphs the NHL's most famous defensemen:
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3
(Kimmo, Coburn, AMac, Pronger, and a bunch of guys we're looking at this summer are in there.) - Tomahawk
I like the blue lines. They're pretty. |

I can remember watching Orlov at the rookie game a couple years back and thinking he was going to be a good player. - johndewar
I got the same impression watching him. The coaching staff really hides him. Only Jay Beagles sees easier competition on the Caps. |

He can be guilty of taking some brutal penalties and skull-popping turnovers. |

I disagree. Doughty is arguably the best defenseman in the NHL right now with the way he's playing. Muzzin is coming on strong. Willie Mitchell is underrated, and Voynov is a strong player also. And Martinez and Greene make a solid 3rd pair. - MJL

why does macdonald's line end at 2013 unlike the other graphs with the only comment being flyers will miss the playoffs

I would rather wait for the Flyers' defense prospects to develop, sink or swim before taking on another large contract.
They're young and they will make mistakes, but that just how i see it. |

If the league really conspired to fix the draft every time some disgruntled fan said they did (or at all) do you really think in this era of communications that it wouldn't have leaked by now? Take the tinfoil off your head. - bodiva88
The tinfoil has been off for a long time.
Its a multi billion dollar business with a marketing plan
I find the consistent Pens 1st round overall #1 lottery picks and the Blackhawks miracle with Kane right after Old Man Wirtz dies to be up there with rescinding the Malkin suspension in the finals.
Its all about marketing and with Old Man Wirtz dead, the league had a "good partner" in his son instead of someone who abused the important franchise and was thusly rewarded. The league was so tied to Crosby with adverts every 10 seconds for years they seemed to have manipulated the rules in the 09 finals to achieve the desired result. And WHO can forget the scenes of Bettman on national TV being so excited when the Pens had a late power play against in Detroit during the 08 finals ?
I perfer tinfoil to blinders
History buffs only need to look at the Patrick Ewing "draft" debacle in the NBA where the commish came from.
They are all happy to take the $$$ and be in the show or working supporting it.

Yeah, I'd keep a close eye on any team that just got a new GM to be trying to move some $$$ pieces out that the former GM felt married to.
Green is much-maligned, but I'd welcome him on this team in a heartbeat... as long as we don't have to gut the team to get him. - Tomahawk
I agree. I would be ok with him on a one year and see what happens. As long as money is retained and your not sending anything huge to the caps like top prospects or a number 1.
Do you seeany her guys that could be avaible because of money. |

He's only looking at seasons when players played on the same team all year (and played at least 19 games). |

The graph is mis-leading as it doesn't depict QoC, QoT or zone starts.
Amac's numbers were alright up until last season when the Islanders began using him as a Chris Pronger. |

Leino had 7 goals and 21 points.
Edit: That was only a 5th rounder though. He should have used the 2nd rounder for a better player. |

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Richards and Carter Revisited, Recalling Shero "Trade" - bmeltzer
risto. siltanen.
this is my default name for any finnish player.
..............
as for frick and frack, the flyers got plenty of pieces out of those deals. i was happy with the trades then. i'm happy with them now, especially when you look at richards' contract. he's still a valuable player, but not for 9 more years at that cap hit, imho.
carter has matured, and really put together an excellent performance for the kings this run. his goal last night, while offside and should not have counted, was the kind of play that makes a difference and shows determination and effort on his part rather than just being a passenger and watching the play.
and speaking of former flyers, justin williams just keeps on being a big game player last night with a goal to tie the game and an assist on the OT winner. bugs the poop out of me still that we gave him away. i loved markov, and i know why it happened, but what an ill-fated move this turned out to be.

Wasn't Leino added in January or February? I can't recall offhand. But that is a fair point. Leino was great that year in the playoffs. |

Why would there be? The Flyers were hoping an NCAA program would be interested in recruiting Larsson but there were no offers. He has torn the meniscus in his knee a couple times and is without a team for next season. His development has not been fast enough to justify an entry-level contract at this point.
Super nice guy, by the way. |

It was before the deadline, but it's hard to argue with the way Homer handled that whole situation with Leino. |

i'm not a conspiracy theorist or believer, BUT, you'd be a fool to think that any professional organization(s) is above corruption, sports in particular. i just posted an article the other day about the FIFA ref/game fixing scandal. it's absurd. we STILL don't know who killed JFK...i'm sure if the NHL wanted to keep some poop quiet...especially poop from awhile back...it wouldn't be that difficult. |
