I think it'll be Reinhart this yr and Eichel next...
First you get your playmaking center, and then your big-time goal scorer.
Build around that. Put former 1st rd pick Zemgus Girgensons with em to dig out pucks.
And I'll even take this thing another step further... I'll say that the Sabres will finish with the worst league next season, and once again lose the draft lottery.
I know it sounds like a conspiracy theory, but I do believe the drafts are sometimes rigged (like the Crosby draft), because after all Bettman served as an apprentice to David Stern.
They used to say in NBA circles, that the league would freeze the envelope with the #1 pick so that person reaching in would be able to know where it is.
Hate to say this, mainly because Pat LaFontaine was my favorite Sabre growing up, but I think that when he returned to his league position, he told em that the Sabres were tanking on purpose. and now because of this, Bettman won't let Buffalo win the lottery.. Hope I'm wrong.

As long as you spend over the minimum and don't publicize the tank you're fine. The NHL was/is well aware what would happen in a salary cap world and how teams would use the draft to build.
People here somehow get this notion that when something doesn't go Buffalo's way its a conspiracy against them.
The reaction to the draft lottery was the funniest 2 pages of posting i had seen in a while. People crying foul because a team with 25% odds of winning lost the lottery to a team with the 2nd best odds. It's just sad. |

I get the conspiracy theory. If Bettman's involved, I would bet on it.
However, there are no envelopes. There are balls. I suppose there's a way to rig it (if we can put a man in the moon...), but there are so many combinations, it would be almost impossible.
Also, the Sabres had a 75% chance of losing it, even if it weren't rigged.

Would be a better draft if they did it live. I'm sure there is enough backlash on them doing it behind closed doors . |

I could be wrong, but I cannot believe that the representatives from each lottery eligible team aren't watching it happen, or that they aren't at least insisting that it happen with each team representative present. |

Why not make it live on TV ? They make everything else public. |

I think the process is boring and would take senseless explanation. I *think* I had heard before how it's multiple draws, teams getting eliminated with each draw, etc.
I have to assume that team reps are there for the process. |

I think they should incorporate the "goat head" in the next turd burger conversation but with blue and gold and see where it goes - Stripes77

Honestly, I think they could bring back the B with the sword through it and put it back on the shoulder patch. |

I like when Murray says Reinhart is always the smartest player on the ice . Does not say that about Bennett . I have a center with a nonstop motor in Girgensons . And two wingers in the system that have that in Fashing and Compher . Reinhart is the type of player we have not had in a while . I am not in love with him as you are with Bennett but I want to try something different . They all can't be Ted Nolan type players. Want some brains out there too . I just don't like the idea of Ekbald especially since he is on the same level as Reinhart and Bennett. - Maximum Signal
Stating a case for a guy against the unending love for Reinhart does not mean I'm in love with him. He would be my first choice but it's not like he's a clearcut choice like Crosby, MacKinnon, Tavares etc. When people speak of brains they give Bennett a lot of points there as well, much more than they give Reinhart for grit and skating in which Bennett out rates him by quite a bit |

Put it on a yellow jersey and you might be onto something.
They gotta get rid of this latest 3rd jersey ASAP. |

How about a primarily grey 3rd jersey (seeing as that's in the color scheme now), with yellow stripes.
And the goat head?
...nah, it'd never work. |

Why not . we will be a practice (rebuild) jersey for the next 3 years and they can change it. |

Im not crazy about them doing it behind closed doors, but this years draft had the added bonus of new jersey possibly winning the lottery and having to re-do it. At least if things go to plan, we will have a look at a franchise center regardless of the stupid lottery. |

For once , I would like Buffalo to have the smartest guy on the ice . That sees plays developing before anyone else . That was the magic of Gretzky . We have guys already that will skate through the boards if asked to. in no way devaluing Bennett . Want something different . That is what all the reports say about Reinhart . Bennett's raw emotion gets him in trouble at times with dumb penalties. I really would like a cerebral assassin like Reinhart for once.If we get Bennet all will be good just like something different.

I hear you, it would be good to get something different and that's why I lean towards Bennett's skill + grit+complete game. That is something I don't believe the Sabres have had in a top two center. I guess it's a matter of choice. |
