Yup. Embiid and Iriving is a decent combo moving forward.
I don't think they land Lebron. I think Lebron may stay in Miami. Cleveland may be better off signing a mid-level wing player like a Lance Stevenson. |

Niskanen and to a lesser degree Stralman scare the poop out of me.
Huge contract, for middle of the road talent. Enough of that. - flyer_nutter
Stralman won't get a massive deal like Niskanen. He doesn't have the offensive ability of Niskanen. |

If Gustafsson didn't play because they wanted to win now, then they really missed the point. The Flyers were a more effective team with Gus in the lineup over Meszaros & Schenn.
I don't think winning now and developing for the future have to be mutually exclusive. Detroit won Stanley Cups and developed talent. Boston's doing the same. So is Chicago and LA. - Jsaquella
A lot of those same teams make room for their kids to play.
I don't care too much about Guss because he was too weak imo to really stick long term. However there needs to be room, and consistent playing time for your younger d-men to develop. Not being bounced around from the ice to the press box.
From what I have read at least, Hex seems to be a patience and pro development guy. I like that. Build a team that has a window for a few years, and establish it with young developed players who are part of a dominant crew.
Instead of overpaying for FA to try and stay competitive at all cost, and have a fart in a windstorm's chance at winning it all. Having a team that is defined by its hot and cold streaks is poor management imo.
I have faith in Hex. We shall see. |

What about signing a guy like Andre Benoit to a 1.5 to 2mil contract? - FlyersSteve118
The only d-men I want brought in here are those of an upper caliber. No more of this mediocre poop, or overpaying for guys who you continuously have to try and hide one way or another.
If they trade or sign a FA on D, it needs to be a young kid like Josi or an established guy like Giordano. To me in FA you overpay for a guy like Suter not a guy like Niskanen.
If you build you team with guys who always have warts to crucial parts of their game, you get what we have seen. To me its about making a team of the right players, and not just those that are best available and let you make round 1 of the playoffs. |

To me its time to release this dream of winning it all every year. They are out a few years, and need an infusion of higher level talent, especially on that back end.
I want nothing to do with Niskanen, who will be just another long overpaid contract, and I have a feeling Stralman will get the same. Stop giving out huge deals for mediocrity.
If they can move one of the current D they have, I'd want that spot to be filled first and foremost with Alt/Laudrisen/Ghost.
If they can move two from that current back end, even better, but I don't see it happening. - flyer_nutter
You said it, and didn't Hextall? Have to take a step back to take a step forward sometimes.
I listened to an interview with Bob the Hound Kelly the other day. Of course he threw out the "If you don't win the Cup then the season's a failure" "play to win the Cup" BS that has purveyed this franchise since the bullies.
Listen Bob, sometimes theres more to it. Theres 30 teams now, theres a salary cap, etc.
The whole conversation was just typical broad street bully flyer BS and I hope Hextall comes in and actually builds something.

I don't think the lack of minutes played, had anything to do with it. He averaged 20:01 of icetime in the playoffs. That is more then enough icetime for an old guy to keep loose. - MJL
He saw less ice time and games off going into the playoffs and looked terrible. That's the point. I don't think bc we'll ask him to play 14-15 mins a night we'll get the kimmo of a couple years ago back |

The problem with your theory is, Detroit allows young players to spend years in the AHL developing, and they sign as many free agents as any one.
Also, prior to the last couple of drafts, the Flyers had a significant lack of young defensemen that were NHL ready. Part of that was due to trading for Pronger and his subsequent injury. Part of it was the organization going the safer route in the draft and taking forwards who generally develop faster than defensemen & goalies.
The best thing they can do for these young defensemen is to let them get a ton of minutes in the AHL. Spot them in at the NHL level when injuries arise. Despite having several good young defense prospects, it's not as if they have a future Doughty on hand. |

(frank) that BS. Its stupid to think you can win every year. The window for Chicago and Boston will close as well, just as it did for Philadelphia and Vancouver.
Just be more selective in the talent you bring in, and the talent you choose to overpay for as is the way of FA. All I ask. |

Meh, I think Guss didn't play because they wanted to win at all cost in the 'now'. Vets like Gill/Mez give you a safer way to do that.
I'd love to keep Kimmo around for a mentor. I think that's really important for a young d-man.
Perfectly fine with:
Coburn-Streit
MacDonald-Schenn
Alt-Timonen
Its ugly as (frank), but that's the corner they painted themselves into. I look to the future of this team, more than to the win now. - flyer_nutter
