Fabbri would be an awesome pick. Speed, skill and a knack for scoring goals but I don't think he will be there when the flyers pick.

Bill,

What have you heard from others about Virtanen. Are teams worried about his shoulder injury. I am praying to the Gods that he drops to 17 due to it as I think it would be the steal of the draft. Any insight?

Sonny Milano would become an instant fan favorite by virtue of his name alone.

I wouldn't think so. A potential top 10 pick at this years draft and TSN has him going in the top 6 I don't think it happens but you never know....there are better offensive players that will be available after he has been picked but they don't bring as much to the table as Virtanen does.

So if Virtanen falls to 17 due to his shoulder surgery, do the Flyers take the risk? I feel more comfortable with the guys from the USHL guys if available: Tuch, Larkin, or Milano. Their upside is not as good but their safe picks at 17th. Virtanen may fall though since he is out six months; may be worth the risk for a true sniper.

"There is no chance that either Sam Bennett (despite his inability to perform a pullup at the Scouting Combine) or Sam Reinhart get anywhere near the middle part of the first round. "

...wait, what? He couldn't do a pull-up?

Supposedly he wasnt the only one either. I know from seeing it growing up in sports.. The pull-up made a disappearing act for a bit. Its back now.

I got you. I was kind of thinking what happened with Couturier. He was supposed to be possible number one and then got mono. Dropped down to 8 then.

I think he might be worth the risk if there. He would be an ideal winger for Giroux i think.

Honestly, nobody knows if any of these kids are going to be any good.

But one thing I do know. After making fun of Craig Button last year, I won't be doing so this year. He nailed the Sam Morin pick for the Flyers when no one else had it.

I guess young Mr. Bennett did not engage a training guru to prepare him for the combine the way Pro Football prospects do.

Correct. We don't know. All we can do is look at the skill set and what they previously did and make a quess. How do you think the GM and scouts do it. They try to make a prediction on what player A skills are and if they can translate to the NHL game. That's all we are doing here because we don't have a stanley cup game to talk about.

I learned by watching the college football recruiting cycle.

People get so hyped about signing day and, really, you never know if the kid will be any good.

I'm fair more intrigued by the development process than I am the draft process.

Let's not compare the two processes. NHL teams actually go out and watch the players play, exensively. The data they have is far more extensive then what any fan has. All a fan does is read some articles and watch some youtube videos. Or catch a game here or there if possible. Let's not pretend that any fan has the same amount of research and scouting behind these players, in forming an opinion.
