Well if they are then able to aquire another forward through trade then sure.
Oh and I forgot Fasching and Carrier on our list of prospects.
I really think we are 3 top forwards (I know hard to get) away - sbroads24
Carrier IMO won't be a top forward. He IMO will be like Versteeg. Not saying he is Versteeg but will just chop in once in awhile type of deal. |

While calling out Vanek is nothing new but Pacioretty? Maybe cause he is American? I know he didn't have the best playoffs but to say he needs to go? - Stripes77
Ouch is right. But in all fairness, Vanek is better suited for 2nd and 3rd line duties.
He can't play against the elite talent and rise to the top, yet he can make other 2nd or 3 liners look silly. It really all comes down to how he is used as a player and our front office had pipe dreams that he was on the verge of becoming a superstar.
In retrospect, should have taken the 5 picks for him, but Darcy wouldn't have lasted that long had we done that.

I'm more surprised by the Pacioretty comment |

I didn't say he was a top forward. I said we have a lot of guys that project on lines 2-4. IMO we need to target two top line guys 1 through trade and 1 at pick2 this offseason |

I saw that too. Its classic Montreal Canadiens mentality. They think its 1979 still and they can discard their best players (after the first really meaningful season in 20 years) because they think the whole hockey world still wants to play there first. |

....Back when 85% of NHL players CAME from Montreal, right?

Drafting Ekblad sets our rebuild back another year. Like SB said, you need to draft a top line unless you're the Rangers. Grabbing one this year and one next year, possibly using Hoff to trade for the third (or a FA but w/e) leaves us available to use NYI or STL 2015 on a defenseman. - TheSabresTaco
Drafting a forward that turns out to be a bust, sets us back 3 years. So if the management feels ekblad is the BPA, and is there at 2, you take him. |

Yes
Just like last night I had a friend saying he doesn't want Golisano to own the Bills. Its either Golisano, Trump or they're gone. That's it. Can't be too picky. |

According to a tweet by @JB_HockeyTalk (has insiders and is a good follow on Twitter) he said Bruce Garrioch told him that it was Lazar from OTT for Stewart at the deadline...still interested as well - Watchtower62
that would be amazing if that gets done. |

I remember mentioning Stewart for Lazar a while back. If TM has the chance, I really hope he adds in what he must to pull it off. Big fan of Lazar. |

I dont care who they take. I prefer bennett, But Devine (recently at least) and Murray have a good track record, so I am happy with whomever they get. |

I as well, I wanted the sabres to grab him with their 2nd first, I was pretty mad when they did not. |

Especially with the improvement he's had this year. I'd give them something like Stewart and #39 or #47(?) for him. |

History would suggest Ekblad is more likely to bust than a top 5 forward |

Honetly, I'd do both 2nds
I didnt think a package of Stewart would have got Lazar from the Sens. |

If we don't plan on moving back into the 1st, then 'd be fine with that. Don't want to give up #31, though. |

I suppose I would do the 31st and Stewart, or Stewart with the 39th and 47th.
I wanted to move back up in the 1st as well. But to me, Lazar is better than anyone you could move up into the first to get, so I prefer this trade over something such as Ehrhoff and 2nds to move up and grab virtanen, which was something you and I kept mentioning.
Realistically, imo at least, Lazar is better than any offensive player in this years draft. |
|
|
|
Lazar is a stud. With Spezza moving and them not having a 1st I doubt he's available - sbroads24
Is he good enough to trade Stewart and a 2nd for to help the Sens to compensate for not having a 1st. Maybe they could trade two 2nds for a 1st if they want to get back into the 1st. |
