Which IMO he's right about
Reinhart ****IMO**** has the least talent or upside of the 4 players (Bennett, Ekblad, Draisaitl, Reinhart) but he's the safest and probably the most NHL ready. - sbroads24
Reinhart could look real nice slotted in the #2 center role in a few years. |

Or he could be a good 1A type center like a David Krecji |

I do too. I just think he doesn't have the upside as the others.
I would bet on him panning out to be a good player over all of them including Ekblad. He's the safest pick to be a 55-65 point good 2C. The other ones are more boom/bust - sbroads24
I like that he is a good two way player that was nails in the playoffs. That could be a real nice pick going forward. |

Florida is nuts to make that trade, IMO. Ekblad is the best player in that trade, and the team that gets the best player usually wins the trade.
7yrs @ $7 mill for Phanuf? I wouldn't want to be saddled with that, it's worse than the Myers deal.
If I was Florida, I'd just assume spend that $7 mill in FA. I'll take Callahan as my captain over Phaneuf. |

This is what happens when your the last place team with no stories to write about.Stay at number 2 and take the best player to fit your needs and don't get fancy. The End |

I wouldn't be shocked to see Florida take one of the 2 Sams instead but its just me. |

I've heard some say that in terms of vision, awareness, & playmaking ability, Reinhart has the upside of a Henrik Sedin-type.
Unfortunately for the Sabres, the only place that they are gonna find top center in high in the draft.
Those guys don't get traded & nobody with any passion to win the Cup is gonna sign in Buffalo any time soon.

How about if Florida take Reinhart..
Sabres trade 2nd overall and ehrhoff to Carolina
Buffalo gets Skinner 7th overall and 1st next year.
Then if Bennett is there take him or take any of the other guys you mentioned |

And sadley, all that being said... Ekblad would be the slam dunk pick IMO.
After watching the playoffs, I'd love to see Ekblad/Myers turn into a dominant shutdown pair.
Ekblad/Myers
Erhoff/Pysyk
Zadorov/Ristolienen
...like a young STL model. Like a Boss.

Bennett will not be there and love Skinner but I belive he is a winger and we need a true center to rebuild this team with. |

Love Ekblad on a team full of Offence such as Edmonton not Buffalo even tho hes probably the most talented player in the draft. I want to win sooner then later and theres no telling if we will draft this low next season or be able to pick up a number one center like most fans here belive.

If the Sabres drafted Sam Bennett, could we nickname him "Biscuit"?
Or maybe LiL Biscuit? |

If I'm florida I take this. They have huber, barkov, and grandbunson (sp?) Already. There is no super elite talent in this draft. That move, plus the Luongo move last season. And maybe one key UFA signing, and they are in the playoffs, which really is their goal there. |

Kadri would be a great 2C for them. I don't know if they would want Phaneuf's contract and may push for Gardiner (at least I would). |

the one thing the sabres have done well since Peggy took over is get those young free agents
flynn, ruhwedel, makarov, schaller
they may not be difference makers but they fill the pipeline with quality, something sabre fans are not use to seeing under tommy g - homiedclown
Agreed, they've done well scouting nhl talent at the NCAA level. Hopefully the trend continues. |

If Phanuef's contract wasn't insane I would do it.
I doubt the Leafs are offering that to move up 7 spots. There is no guarantee Ekblad ends up better than Phadouche |

Wayne Gretzky just called Kopitar the 3rd best player in the game behind Crosby and Toews. I know he's up there, but that's some high praise. |

I will be happy with any of Ekblad/Reinhart/Bennett as I believe all 3 possess enough hockey talent to help this team move forward. I have slight favoritism for Bennett only because I like rooting for the feisty, "Gilmour-like" players in the league.
My question to you guys is, in your opinions, how high up do you think the Sabres could move into the first round by packaging the 3 second round picks (or player and picks)?
I would love to see the Sabres move up to grab Alex Tuch. Syracuse native, big power forward, and USA NTDP player makes him seem like a great fit in what they are trying to do in Buffalo.
Reinhart/Tuch or Bennett/Tuch would be a nice haul. |
