Assuming they don't explore free agency or a trade to upgrade that LW, would you be OK with a third line of Raffl - Coots - Akeson? I don't think they'd light the world on fire offensively but they might have a different dynamic with Akeson on the wing.
I'd like to see how Read would do on the top line with Giroux and Voracek. He played well there for stretches in the lockout shortened season. Then move Hartnell down with Schenn and Simmonds. Of course, all this assuming Vinny is traded or starting the season on the 4th line, which I don't really see happening. - TobyFlenderson
I'd be fine with them staying pat for the most part... I'm not one of those people who are panicking over Giroux 'wasting' his prime years as the team develops. If they just move Vinny and/or one of AMac or Grossmann's contracts out this summer, I'd deem the offseason a big success. |

I have never thought Read does all well on the top line when he's been used there. Playing with Giroux and Voracek, the Flyers need a little more of a gritty, space-clearing forechecker on the other side. To me, Read's ideal role is the one he already plays on the third line with Couturier. |

Looks like David LeNeveu will dress as the backup tonight. If he happened to get in a game, he'd be eligible to get his name on the Cup.

Definitely something odd going on with Cam Talbot's mystery injury. Rangers' extras skated this morning & Jason Missiaen was only goalie.
oh, the possibilities |

Even when I typed it I knew it was some hyperbole. Lets just say, when compared to other hair of the same era.
There are some pretty bad haircuts out there, but most of them are from an ENTIRE era of bad cuts, so that disqualifies.
Iafrate's hair was historically bad, but in light of his era, IMO the baddest.

no word on quick's shattered collar bone, larynx and pharynx? i'm surprised jamie storr won't be in goal for the kings tonight.
talbot's injury is interesting. he's a good goalie. take out lundqvist and they're stuck with drago adam. |

This Kings team could pwn the Rags with Kelly Hrudey in net. |

Yes, the only thing I remember from his extended time there in the shortened season was a big game against the Islanders. I guess it's just my selective memory choosing to think he did amazing on the top line when used there.
I'd also be hesitant to break up Read and Couturier because of their chemistry and two-way play. I would just like to see the two of them get expanded offensive roles. Even if that just means more powerplay time on the second unit. |

"I do at times think about that. I think the line is missing the physical element a little bit if we put Read up there and not have Hartnell or somebody else. I think that line with Giroux and Voracek, the way they skate and handle the puck, you need a guy in there to bang bodies and get to the net. I don’t see enough of a net presence and physical aspect on that line." |

I know we want to see a little more offense from Couturier and yes maybe get some PP time but how about we keep letting him do what he does best. Why try to force them into taking on more. Having a pairing like Read and Couturier and if we get a good replacement on that wing is a huge benefit. They do their job well. |

I agree. I don't think it's a stretch to think Giroux, barring an injury, could be productive for the next 8-10 years. Agreed on Vinny and one of Amac or Grossmann. I think Vinny would be tricky to move but Grossmann could certainly fill a need on someone's blueline. He's a savvy shot blocker and a good PKer. I just feel that moving him might expand Luke Schenn's role and he seems to do better with more minutes. Plus, it could be an opportunity to see what they have in a kid like Alt or Lauridsen for an extended period of time. |

If we had a defensively responsible 4th line, that could probably happen. Maybe having Scott Laughton out there helps in this regard.

I definitely would not be opposed to that either. If he can put up 40 points a year while being a shutdown forward and one of the best PKers in the league, I'll be totally OK with it. I would just like the second unit on the PP to find some more consistency. Too many times it seemed like it was an experimentation with guys being cycled in and out. Having one, or both, of Couturier and Read on there night in and night out might help boost their point totals and take the pressure off of the top unit. |
