I'm sure he was. But last time I checked Assistant GM's don't have final say. - PLindbergh31
So what does that mean? Name one player on the team that Hextall acquired? And does that mean that he's going to trade all of the players that he didn't acquire, or just the ones that some fans don't like? |

Flyers just acquired MacDonald, and he has added skill and mobility to the defense. As well as being solid defensively. His deal is market value. Why on earth would the Flyers want to trade him this off season? - MJL
They'd like to continue the tradition of trading guys right after they sign extensions. |

Tomahawk doesn't think he's very good, and thinks the contract is too long and for too much money. Hextall seemed to agree with the latter part a little bit.
I am more of a fan of McDonald but would have no problem if they traded him for a good return. Maybe they could trade him for picks if they had another defensemen lined up that Hextall liked more. Someone like Stralman. |

This. He's never going to be more valuable/movable than he is right now. |

What Hextall basically said about the contract, is that they, meaning the Flyers wanted to pay a little less. And the MacDonald camp wanted a little more. So they came to a compromise and maybe both sides are a little unhappy, so that makes it a good deal. It's also market value.
I think Tomahawk is wrong, if that's what he thinks. MacDonald is a good defenseman, who makes the Flyers better. I'm never against any trade that makes the Flyers a better team. And I would definitely trade him, if a deal does that. But other then that, I think it was a good trade and signing. |

So is Simmonds and Voracek. Should they be traded also? That is never a reason to trade a player.
It is also an assumption. MacDonald could flourish as a Flyer and his trade value could soar. |

For all we know Hextall's only input on the MacDonald signing was insisting that he didn't get any sort of NTC/NMC.
Last draft the Oilers keep pestering us about Coburn and making crappy offers, but now they have missed the playoffs yet again and we have another minute-eating defenseman who's not as good as Coburn, but is locked up for six years. And their only signed defensive veteran is Andrew Ference. |

You really just pull at the tiniest string you can find to start an argument don't you? You don't even make an argument. You just keep the other person running in circles.... |

Simmer and Voracek are young, improving, core players.
If a signed AMac can get you a RFA Jake Gardiner or RFA Jeff Petry+ from teams that are notoriously in need of 'improving' on the defensive side of the puck, I'm guessing Hexy would be pretty interested in a move like that. Makes sense from both the cap and hockey angles. |
