There is absolutely nothing wrong with these comments. He's a leader in their lockerroom, and he's instilling the idea that they are ready for the Cup in his teammates. The Rangers are far better equipped to be serious contenders than the Lightning. In my opinion, wanting a Cup contender is "personal reasons" if you're in a place that isn't going to be there. - dps0610

I don't honestly think team Canada had anything to do with him requesting the trade. I think he just wasn't happy, whether that is with the team or the city or the fans or whatever, and no one in any line of work should stay somewhere that makes them unhappy.
So he asked for a trade and he got it. And now he's happy.
So, here's a question...what do you expect him to say? His job places him under constant media scrutiny. He's not asking for cameras and microphones to get shoved in his face, it just comes with his line of work.
And to be honest, he never said anything negative about the Lightning or the fans or anything else even remotely related to the team. He simply stated that he was happy to be in NY, happy to be in the SCF, and who can honestly blame him for that? He didn't say he hates you, or loves you, he said basically nothing about you.
So why be a sad sack? He's moved on, he seems happy, so be happy for him, or begrudge him, and yes it's your blog and you're entitled to do this. Just recognize that putting stuff like this out there, and framing it this way, makes you sound very bitter, and that by doing so, you set yourself up for comments like the ones you're getting. You don't need to defend your position, just understand that outsiders (like myself, for example) are going to point out that you'll be a lot happier if you focus on guys like Stamkos and Bishop and forget about Martin St Louis. Every time you bring him up, you're transporting yourself back in time to a moment when your heart was crushed. Stop re-living it, life goes on. You'll be happier for it. |

What I bolded that's the problem to me... 14 years of cheering him and giving him adoration... kids grew up in Tampa wanting to be Marty St Louis... he was not just another cog in the system he was the engine. If say Bergeron or Chara did to the Bruins what Marty did to the Bolts demanding a trade as the Cap without our best player hurt but still in contention for the playoffs and said nothing to the old town, team, and fans after he got what he wanted in the trade, how would it feel. That's all I am saying. It has nothing to do with the Rangers, his family, etc. for me its he didn't say anything to us the fans who cheered him his whole career, say you hate us or loved us but I think he should have said something instead of nothing. He was not just another hockey player thru the doors like Benoit Pouliot was for us. |

Just my two pennies, which don't mean much but still my thoughts are that Bolts fans are being a little skin sensitive about eh whole ordeal. Sure, he could have retired from there without another cup (most likely, not because the Bolts are bad, but winning a cup is against the odds) or want a trade to a particular team for a particular reason (ie getting the previously talked about odds increased. It isn't like he hand tied the Bolts into getting an unfair price for him, and with one of his best friends in Lecavalier being a buyout, maybe he fealt it was time to move on from that situation. Once again, sure he asked if he could be traded to a particular team, but he shouldn't have to talk about how great TB was ever. He eventually will because he is a class act, but let him finish his year with NY before beating him to floor on not admiring what he had. I'm sure most people have left a job before for something they perceived as a better situation for them. That is all he did. And just because a microphone is in his face, he should have to revert to 4 months ago with his old job? No one else does, I guess is all I'm saying. Once again, two pennies. |

Michael, people don't change, you just get to know them better. Never liked Marty, I've listened to him talk to the french media all his playing career and he's always been like that. He's very arrogant! |

bolts should just bring back vinny boyle and richards and let marty be by himself without his buddies
as i met him multiple times, hes very soft spoken and didn't like the spotlight here in tampa even though everyone knew him. when he went to the local rink to watch his kids play hed be almost bothered when people would come up and talk to him and would usually sign something for kids if they asked but rarely parents or adults. idk for talking about loving the spotlight he didnt seem like he wanted to deal with anyone even here in florida where most people wouldnt even recognize him on the street. There was a lot more to him leaving but it was def hard on his family. His parents moved down here to tampa and his dad never missed one of his games until he went to new york. I dont think they were too happy about him leaving. I think he just knows hes going to retire when this contract is up and wanted one more chance at the cup and to play with richy before he hangs them up. But he def wont have the statue or number retired like he would have had he stayed. I wouldnt be surprised if vinny's 4 goes up top when hes done if he doesnt come back. The contract was the only thing that caused him to leave. No one wanted him to. So if he gets bought out he will be back. Even on his deal now id much rather buy out malone and take vinny back for the same salary cap hit. |

It's kind of funny. Watching him play and listening to him speak over the years, I guess I had blinders up. Going back and watching old clips, I see that. |

I don't think that's the plan at all
I think he will sign an extension with the Rangers beyond next season and play into his 40's.
He will certainly be among the league scoring leaders next season and shows no signs of slowing down.
Martin St. Louis has been insane this post season

Michael Stuart: Sometimes It's Better to Say Nothing - Michael_Stuart
You made the analogy about ex's.
Sometimes it's best to move on from your ex, and not cling to every word they say after they have moved on from you. You're expecting your ex to praise you, but shes sleeping in someone elses bed now. Move on.
It almost comes across as goofy when you guys poop on Marty for leaving, but don't show the same anger and frustration when your team bails on Vinny and the contract they signed him to. If it's good for the goose, it's good for the gander. Suck it up Bolts fans, and as much it sucks, it's sports. Happens all the time. Get over it. |

Honestly, what do you expect him to say. When his career is over you'll hear him say how much he loved playing in Tampa, but right now in the Finals....he's going to be talking about New York. - wheresthesoda
Totally agree. I am not sure why Mike is still pissed. IMO None of those quotes you provided show St.Louis taking shots at TBL what so ever. You recieved a great package in the trade and I would hope everyone would agree that the Rangers had a much better chance of making the finals then the Lightning. You also have a great young core that only going to get better and solid coach and GM.
I would take his departure a million times over how Alfie left the Sens

Woah, thats harsh. even i think thats harsh and you should see half the poop i put on here Not true at all. Team captains and people who have been on the same team for 14 years who are the face of the franchise and leads on as if he loves it so much there doesnt just ask for a trade 1 day.. |

you don't have any remarks about St. Louis' dead mother to chime in with? - jimbro83
Well considering I am yet to say a single bad thing about St. Louis' mom ever, I'm going to go WAY out on a limb here and say probably not. But while you're at it you might as well accuse me of making some remarks about Moore's wife because, hey, why not just throw around random accusations? Anything else I'm guilty of crybaby? Or would you just prefer to PM me messages that speak to your latent homophobia? |
