Back after a couple weekss just catching up. Thank JJ for the insightful blogs. Hawks fans here at HB are lucky to have you and the additional sharings of the many people who post here.

Would Statsny be a fit here? I would think he is the top center available. Is he an upgrade to Sharp? Just wondering.

I'm not holding out any hope that he makes the team, it's a low-risk low-reward scenario.
- DarthKane

Agreed. He's probably something to fill space since almost all the forwards from the 2013 draft are heading off to college instead of going straight to the minors.

When you see post after post of people saying "we need a 2C"....."we've finally been exposed without a 2C".....I wonder if they've been watching the same team I have for the past 6 years....the same team who's won 2 Stanley Cups and played in 4 WCF's......and if had quality depth this past year they are in the Stanley Cup.....in fact the WCF's doesn't go 7 games......

Kane will sign with the Hawks....there. is. no. doubt. .......and I will buy 4 Duluth Trading Co. shirts if he doesn't.....

- UnnamedSource

If Stan is thinking the same way you are thinking, them Rocky better fire him yesterday! It's ignorant to think that just because they won 2 cups and went to 4 finals without a true #2 center that it is ok to continue to dress a team like that. Do you realize that for every player that is out of position, it is probably taking more out of them during the season. Like I said before, you can drive a car with a flat tire, you will eventually get to your destination, but why would you do that. It is exactly the same thing. Forget the past, nothing happened yesterday. Look forward.

Only if it's tied to Sharp should be the 2nd center dead horse.

I don't they not the issue is if he signs or not. He may be more cap friendly if a real top 6 center is acquired.

We'll see.

- mrpaulish

Kane and Toews will sign for the same term/dollar amount.

8.75 - 9.3 million.......my prediction......2 Duluth trading co shirts if I'm right.

Yeah, as much as moving Sharp to center would solve some problems, I'm not holding my breath waiting fro that too happen.

You answered your own argument and made the same point I and others have been trying to make...

What have the Hawks won with? a 2C or great depth.........stabilize the depth on this team you don't need a 2C.

- UnnamedSource

I agree, as I have in the past. But they are one center short, imo, wherever he plays.

I think in terms of depth...fixing your bottom six and adding a quality center who can win draws on your checking line is more feasible than adding a 2C.

Take the Kings for example...who took the majority of the important face offs against the Hawks in the WCF's.........jarret stoll....3rd line center.

I absolutely lost it. You don't pass on those chances, and he had a lane to shoot. Yet....nothing. No whispers. No criticism. Nothing. What a crock. Maybe the telecast blasted him, but not the local press.

That's THE play I'll remember 10 years from now from that game.

It's ok....now we'll get to see one goal commercials this fall of Keith, shirtless riding his bike like a crack head or flicking the rope to show off his great endurance. Can't wait.

- SteveRain

Keith's toe pull, Bickell's decision to pass to Hoss after the defense turned Bickell loose on Quick, and Sharp trying to pull up and cut across on the defenseman on the 3-on-1 (or 3-on-2) in OT and getting poke checked and no shot off...not sure which one I am still losing sleep over more. Honestly, as egregious as Keith's decision was at least there was a guy between he and Quick so I can somewhat see why he did that (but still acknowledge how bad of a decision it was). I have no idea why Bickell didn't take the shot after the King clearly decided to play the pass and leave Bickell for Quick and I really can't get over Sharp not taking a shot on the 3-on-1 (or 3-on-2). Coming down on the left wing, fire something low to the far side and take a chance on a rebound. You can't come away from that rush woth nothing. Granted, had Sharp decided to shoot the odds he would have chosen that shot are pretty slim. God knows he probably would have went high short side and caught the glass leading to a pseudo-breakout pass for the Kings.

Paul, Strome would be yet ANOTHER centre who needs time to develop.

If you are talking throw in after they send us Matt Martin to tenderize, I see a possibility, but everone with a hungry sense of our presnet roster must approach 2014 as a season you get VETs who go stand tall and attack well with the puck too.

Now is not the time for potential additions or guys like backlund, or prospects, unless you are stripping six of the forwards and starting fresh...

I am still trying to figure out how Rozsival is slow.

I am betting in terms of game play he is in the top half in terms of short area quickness and that is the important place to be fast. He is not expected to carry the length of the ice...just scratching my head as HIS deal being an issue.

- wiz1901

Which is why if you have Kesler for two years @5 million and a top prospect at 2C. Then there isn't a stupid amount of pressure on the prospect AND there isn't a strangle hold to resign Kesler in 2 years if he works out, if not than at least they tried. Looks like it is pretty win win to me

Also if dahlbek and Johns come up I think Rozy is a pretty great guy from them to learn from. Especially the sneaky behind the play stuff.

There will be a line of suitors...

Can't compare to Kesler.....Spezza has only 1 year left on his deal.
That's a huge difference and if he was ever going to be motivated it will be in a contract year.

Hawks may not be able to stand pat this summer. Competition is fierce big names could be in play around NHL. Fox Chgo:http://bit.ly/1oDBYHR

I dunno Al. People complain about Keslers health but Spezza's isn't necessarily great. AND I kind of have an aversion to people who have had their back operated on. Watching Joe Crede diminish as a player was no bueno and Bolland, Dave fared worse aside from the two ring thing.
