Those footsteps you hear are Colorado, Minnesota, Dallas, even St. Louis coming up behind.
Not to mention Los Angeles' on up ahead.
Don't need a major re-tool, but (as Al said, and as Nixon once famously said), can't stand pat. |

You might want to look at what Dean Lombardi has done with his farm system and drafted prospects.
No team with bare cupboards on the farm does well in the NHL when they need players because 1) there is nobody they can graduate from within and 2) nothing to trade when there is a glaring need.
My bet is that McNeill, Morin, Nordstrom, Dahlbeck, Danault, Van Riemsdyk and Johns and TT have been told to be ready for camp in September - there are 2 maybe 3 jobs open for those who want it most. Agree with it or not, the Hawks aren't going to blow out most of their top minor league talent to get an expensive player who wants to be traded or one someboody else wants to dump. - RickJ
I never advocated the Hawks deplete their entire farm system. All I said was that the Hawks could move a prospect or two without destroying the team, and all of a sudden posters here take that to mean I want a Hawks "fire sale" just to acquire Kesler.
There is nothing wrong with moving a prospect or two in a trade - it happens all the time.

I've got two reds and a winter classic, I've always been reluctant to drop coin on the oh so easily soiled white. - Ogilthorpe2
Add a bib and you're good to go. I have always loved the white. |

What would you think if the the Hawks were sniffing around and being real nice to #36's agent this month? (Actually he is #63 now). - RickJ
Its easy to lose sight of what he is when you look at the things he wasn't. Bolland played huge in big games. |

Is Toews not a legit center to play with? Why has this option been forgotten? Has the whole world gone insane? - FredoXV
It gives the team better balance for them to play on separate line or as Rollie would point out, Kane needs to be better defensively to play with Toews. |

Almost 1200 comments on "yet another" Kesler blog. Let me see if I understand the plan. Trick Kane into taking less money by making him think he'll have his buddy Kesler as his Tonto. But once Kane is safely signed long term, you let Kesler walk rather than pay a well-deserved increase in UFA? Then to...Kruger for 2C? No Shaw, no TT...traded for Kesler? No Sharp...run out of town on false Twitters he slugged Kane, to clear cap-space for RK. Maybe you can work a Versteeg-style return once the Nucks find out 2vo cant do a pull up either, and Shaw cant win a face off. A tangled web, cold-blooded as a Game of Thrones back-stab. main problem - Kesler doesnt strike me as the kind of guy who puts up with being used. - meta_puck_luck
Kesler should come back home. |

I didn't say to stand pat. Colorado is still a mess on D. Minny wants Vanek? Dallas D is terrible and old, St. Louis has some decisions to make. Everything is fluid, Sage. |

Q said in an interview he likes to keep them separate for match up problems.
Kane is so good he can produce with anyone on the ice (cept Zeus this year) so he can get away with silly things like that.
So ipso facto Kane doesn't have a center to compliment his game for an entire season. Nor is there a legitimate plan B in case Toews goes down for 10-20 games for any reason. Like getting concussed... Again...
Some fans feel more comfortable with strength up the middle, Others think it can be done with committee. The Hawks have done it with both but by committee is not as historically successful. Different strokes and such. - fattybeef
Kesler would be the perfect fit for Kane, not only that but just having both Toews and Kesler would drive coaches nuts because there is little they could do about it as far as matchups.
How many teams actually have the depth and skill to go against (2) first lines?
None.
