They were coached by a guy who couldn't win with the best player in the league. Don't look at their lack of production in Sochi.
- powerenforcer

Their coach had nothing to do with how ineffective they were.

The first two I have no issue with but Krugs is a center, got much better at the dot this year and one of our better pk'ers. Offensively he is what he is but from a defensive standpoint I think you miss him.

How does the coach affect that they didn't do poop together? Did he tell them not to score?

Imagine how close we were to beating them with all of this dead weight versteeg, zeus, and bollig are all addition by subtraction. Sharp was really bad. A couple gritty young forwards and rolling 4 lines would make this a very tough team to beat. Plus add how pissed off and focused they will be
- tomcat24

That would be nice. Could be wrong but I think they can retool a little and be right back in the thick of it.

Have said all along, if you look at the Hawks, their core, the cap situation, etc. The one guy that makes the most sense to explore trading and see what comes back is Sharp.

Saad almost potted 20 this year and Shaw hit that mark. Think Saad is poised for a big season this next one; seemed to gain a lot of confidence as the playoffs wore on.

Would like to see Morin get a regular shift and hope he works on his D-side of the game in the offseason.

Doesn't the coach in a tourney like that implement a system for the team to use? They do not have enough time to design plays, so they implement a system. Dan's system stunk.

Oh. Still. Don't you think if two guys are so good together, they should have found a way to score more than 1 goal together?

Sure, but don't really care about the Olympics and Kane wasn't all that great in the previous ones either.

He was merely, meh.

It is evidence of them playing together though. Maybe it wouldn't be what some think it would be is more the point. And I despise Kesler.

I get ya and have read about your non-love of Kesler. I'd be ok with him but think there are others who can fill the 2C role.

Vermette's been mentioned here a bunch and think he would be ideal. Have no idea if he's even available, but this is all pie in the sky stuff anyway. Maybe Versteeg and the rights to the rights to Lalonde gets it done.

I suspect their target is someone no one has mentioned. Its how the Bowmans do business.

We need to start mentioning more trade targets so we eventually get it right.

Probably Crosby.

You're probably right and that has been there m.o. Too bad the Versteeg thing turned out to be such a turd. I don't regret them trading Hayes or Olsen given they were going into a season where they'd be RFA I believe. Just thought it was a good move at the time.

If 23 does stick around, hope him sucking had more to do with not being fully recovered. Even still he just makes way too many stupid plays. Wonder if there's a way Stan could find room for him on Huet's team.

He'd look pretty good at 2C.

Maybe the Ducks would take Leddy and Mac Carruth for him...

Shaw has proven to be a valuable part to a Cup winning team. When given the chance, he HAS shown he can handle it. His play on the first line when Toews was injured was eye-opening to me. That stretch was his best hockey as a Hawk. He was defensively responsible.

He needs to work his ass to improve his FO. He has the hand eye coordination to better than he is.

- Elbows15

Shaw is a winner, plain and simple. Team's need guys with his tenacity to be successful.

I'm pretty sure the new CBA closed that loophole.

I agree with all of this. I see a big year from Saad. And shaw and smith, too. Hope they give morin more time. Or package him in a bigger trade. I think they will be right there again, but one of the big 4 forwards will have to go eventually. I think you can re-load by trading sharp.

all this talk about trading sharp and people are forgetting he has a NTC and a modified NMC in his contract. kinda complicates things don'tcha think?
- SaskHawkFan

Nobody is forgetting that he has a NTC. Ask Brian Campbell about his NTC...nobody wants to stay where they're not wanted.
