I still think Yandle is a good fit. The only reason he's on second pairing is because OEL is so damn good. Although Anaheim might want Spezza, I don't think I'd want any of their left side defensemen. Shattenkirk is right handed, no? This is all assuming that a #2 D is the trade target. It may well not be. - Stringer74
Probably targeting a "hard" forward
P.s. , if michalek makes a cent over 3.33 million per, I'm gonna be pretty annoyed |

Not sure Murray looks at what best suits his needs coming off of a Spezza trade. I think he looks at more like a draft and takes the best asset mix. I believe he goes the trade route to get what he wants beyond the Spezza deal. Spezza is the kind of deal where you may take the best assets offered, even if you need to flip them later to get what you really want. |

i know you were calling me prock (low blow by the way), i also called him prock.
and i'm sorry, but his post was not "honest". he knew it was a terrible offer. like i said, that was the equivalent of me going into a wings thread and say that neil, phillips, michalek, prince, and robinson is a fair offer for zetterberg, datsyuk, and nyquist. it's pretty much a troll post. - sensarmy_11
You know that the only thing this conversation is achieving is making our friend Prock very happy. I am sure he is feeling much love given all the attention he is getting and he did not say anything. I guess he can feel good knowing that he is missed by some of you. Perhaps someone should send him a personal message to see if he wants to join into the discussion. |

I think I read a tweet that the offer was same per year $ as Hemsky based on 2 years. |

2 years at 3.3, i'm good with that. if michalek puts in 15 goals and 30pts (which is reasonable), it's fair value, and if he goes off again (like a couple years ago), it's a steal. move him between 2nd and 3rd line, depending on chemistry. also allows puempel to have another year to develop in the AHL.
i like it. |

Michalek is a good player, he played 82 games last year, good in his own end, nice size. Great it with Lazar or Zibanejad.
I would like to see a fourth line more like the LA Kings approach. For example, Lazar, Michalek and Condra would be a mix that could kill penalties, flash nice speed, be responible defensively and do a little damage offensively. |

Stephen Weiss, Joakim Andersson, Riley Sheahan, Jakub Kindl, Brendan Smith, Adam Almquist, and 15th Overall Pick
for
Jason Spezza, Chris Neil, Erik Karlsson, and Chris Phillips
Edit: Allow me to elaborate (I know close to 0 Senators fans are going to be happy with the idea of Karlsson being traded, so please don't highlight that.) Weiss is the same age as Spezza, but he's a natural leader and two-way center. Was productive in his career until injury woes. A fresh start and new groin might be what he needs to regain that form. Andersson is elite defensively and in key-draw situations, however average in every other aspect. Sheahan can do anything and everything (including play defense). Likely 40-60 point producer for a decade depending on his situation (2nd or 3rd line). Kindl needs a change of scenery. Good offensive skills. Average defensively. Smith is a Top-4 defenseman with elite offensive talent and skating. Never given PP time in Detroit. Hockey IQ questionable at times. Almquist is Karlsson-lite. Same cognitive skills without the skating (average to above-average). Won't get playing time in Detroit for some unknown reason (to me).
Spezza obviously wants out, and the team doesn't want him. As far as I know most fans don't want Neil or Phillips anymore, so we'll take those guys for cap and salary relief as well as roster openings. And Karlsson is Karlsson. I just wanted to expand on a trade. - TwoPieceFeed
Can you guys just give us your two stars, including a superstar defenseman for abunch of our crap?
Hear me out now....we're taking Phillips and Neil, too.

Why are we talking to the Red Wings fan?
His proposal is ridiculous and it can be shot down very quickly...
Ottawa will not be trading Karlsson this year or in the future for almost anything. In my opinion there are about 15 "untouchable" players in the league and Karlsson is one of them...
For me those guys are right now...
1. Crosby
2. Towes
3. Doughty
4. Stamkos
5. Ovi
6. Karlsson
7. Weber
8. Pieterangelo
9. MacKinnon
10. Kane
11. Malkin
12. Kopitar
13. Seguin
14. OEL
15. Giroux
All these guys are FRANCHISE players. Some of them can be traded for each other but anytime you trade one of these guys you will lose the trade. They are players you organization should bend over backwards to make happy and keep.

Agree with all of this. He's still a very solid player and worth $3-$3.5 Mil. Decent possession player, he's fast again. He was sandbagged by poor on-ice goaltending and weak defensive play by Spezza. He'd also be very good on Mika's wing. I maintain he's more L2/L3 quality though.
Here's my current lineup. I guess we're expecting one or two L1/L2 acquisitions, so hopefully Greening and/or Neil will fall off the bottom of this somehow. FWIW, I would have preferred to keep SDC over Pageau.
Mac - Turris - Ryan
Michalek - Zib - Stone
Hoffman - Pageau - Condra
Greening - Smith - Neil |

i would add a few names to that list (tavares, s. jones, landeskog, duchene, hall, etc) but pretty good list. |

Another guy I like after ROR and Evander Kane is James Neal in Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh is a awful mess. They have $61m committed to 14 contracts. They desperately need to move some bodies and Neal is probably the odd man out. He certainly falls within the Murray definition of hard, perhaps too hard, more like dirty.
Nobody will touch Letang or Fleury and the Penguins need to make some moves. I think Neal is one of the guys to go. I assume Pittsburgh wants young forwards with high end potential that are on entry level deals (Stone). |

I forgot about Tavares and Hall.
The other guys you listed are in that next group down from franchise player...
While I think that one day they would be in my group of truly "untouchable" players, right now they are not there. As guys get old their value decreases and as younger guys get older their value increases. |
