When is the last time a player like ROR that is a RFA has been traded for more then a pick? Let alone players coming back.
I cant think of any in recent years.

It was kind of obvious MB wasn't going to let Markov go, even if he was, he was going to get something in return. 5.75 is what he's been making the last few years so the cap hit doesn't change. He's missed 1 game in 2 seasons and he's been a beast in this year's playoffs. Good signing.

RFA Turris for Runblad and a 2nd was the last time I think.
- DDM-Coga

Thank you could not think of any.

So there is a comparable for ROR.

Dion is better then prospect Runblad and a 2nd.

Ek are your sources hesitant to give you information now that you've revealed your mug? How else do you explain all these misses? I mean, usually your sources are bang on.

Eklund: BIG Rumor Update: 23 Players Updated BIG TRADE:Umberger for Hartnell Done
- Eklund

Why?
Hartnell performance last year was "ok". Playoffs were weak. Regular season was uninspiring. He's a power-forward who tend to wear out earlier than most position. At 32, he's not young. He's a fan favorite, but base on past experience rather than more recent. Is he declining??? You need to trade players, just before the decline.

The Team has a new #1 power forward. Last season, Simmonds looked better than Hartnell. Simomonds is 500K less than Hartnell. Umberger won't be asked to do what Hartnell did - you can't compare them...

Money, money, money. Although, the Flyers (Comcast) have almost unlimited funds... The cap hit is about the same, saving $150K for the Flyers. But, the big savings is the long term $10 million (with a 3 yr Umberger salary vs 5 yr with Hartnell). Do you really want a 37 yr old Hartnell on the roster?

ROR to the leafs is a pipe dream, never going to happen. Especially for a Dman who would eat up too much of the avs cap space long term.

If you start moving JVR, you might get a deal going there

come on man, i know you're trying to see the silver lining here........and maybe in 3 years it'll work out..........but for RIGHT NOW and the next 3 years, CBJ absolutely bent philly over in this trade.

oh, and hartnell and umberger are the same age. hartnell had like 20 more pts than r.j. this past season, and is only 2 years removed from almost scoring 40. in terms of advanced stats, it's so lopsided it's almost comical.

so, like you said, in 3 years this might look good..........but right now, it's an absolute steal for columbus.

and you need to get the contracts straight too.......i know you're trying to exaggerate to maybe feel better about the deal. r.j. signed for 3 more, hartnell for 5 more....not 2 and 6 like you suggested.

- sensarmy_11

Ok maybe I got the lengths of the contracts wrong but you can't deny that Hartnell played with much better talent Umberger did. Hartnell had Giroux a 86 point guy last season. Who did Umberger have? Not anyone close to Giroux's talent feeding him passes.

The better question is do you really want a 32 year old Umberger on your team? CBJ was going to buy him out for a reason. Declining or not, Hartnell is a much better player. For the next 3 seasons CBJ will have the better end of the deal.

That is why the deal is made. In 3 years who is going to take Hartnell? No one, lets be honest he does have a cap friendly deal at 4.75 but the length was awful. In 3 years he will be an anchor eating up 4.75 mill. He is on the decline. If Umberger plays with Giroux, his numbers will likely rise. Hartnell did get a lot of his points on the PP from feeds by Giroux.

If we are including Tavares COL would have to throw in Jamie McGinn also.
