Yeah, lots of teams do that.
You've just made up your own definition of what rebuilding is, and its stupid.
You were definitely rebuilding when you traded three draft picks for what Burkie saw as a franchise player. - TommyDeVito
Denial is powerful. You're too delusional to have this conversation with. Hopefully the Sens trade more 1st rounders to complete their rebuild.
Definitely were not rebuilding when we made that trade. Not even close. That's absurd. (frank), some of you guys here are crazy nut cases. |

I love the negative over reaction that always happens on this Sens board. Before all you Chicken Little's throw out your comments why don't you wait to see what happens over the next couple of days and what the team will look like this year.
I wish I had a link to this board from the day they traded Rundblad for Turris. It was the worst trade in history and Murray should have been fired on the spot if I recall correctly.
I think a year from now everybody is going to look back and see how happy they are the Sens moved on from Spezza and built a better 'team'. |

i'm alright with this deal.
it's obviously not great, but i'm excited to get chiasson. i've been reading about him since the idea of dallas was floated....he's a solid player.
would have preferred a better prospect, but guptil (sp) looks to be okay.
most importantly, i like this trade MUCH better than the proposal st louis made (berglund, cole, 2nd)
murray has to spend now, as they're about 10 or so mil under the floor.......can afford to throw some decent $$ at ehrhoff - sensarmy_11
Similar to what we said yesterday would happen in structure at least. Spezza's demands severely limited return.
I thought you guys would at least get a conditional 2nd that becomes a 1st if Spezza resigns, but DAL not giving up that 1st round pick under any circumstance in a deep draft next summer.

So to review...
We've lost a near prime Dany Heatley, the face of our franchise Alfie, and the most skilled player we've ever had that can still put up points in Spezza for
Michalek
Chiasson
and some guys that might not ever play a game
At what point do we stop defending Bryan Murray? What a disaster - skelly96
I'm not the biggest Bryan Murray fan, but in all three of those situations he was dealing from a big disadvantage. You could argue that he didn't make it any easier on himself, especially with Alfredsson. But as long as guys are still demanding to be traded, Murray is going to lose those trades. |

Spezza had 66 points last year. Turris had 58 and Zibanejad had 33.
You don't think Turris can get 70 and Zibanejad can get 55? Because if you have that down the middle, you're better off than a lot of teams in the NHL, and that basically replaces most of Spezza's points, except you've got 2 centers now who will not turn the puck over at will and play in all zones.
So yeah...you can argue that they'll lose some points, but that GAA is gonna drop too. - the_terror
Turris I see getting about 65-70
55 For Zib may be a bit of a reach, next season at least.
Like I said, I think both will improve next season, especially with the added ice time.
No more playing Zib on the wing, or centering the fourth line, thank goodness. |

1) Ryan - He's 26. They traded a 22yr old roster player, a prospect, and a pick for him. If Bobby Ryan leaves, then I'll accept it's a rebuild again. Otherwise, he's one of the marquis players on the team.
2) Hemsky - They were trying in vain to make the playoffs. They traded 2 draft picks from a thin draft for him, and just added back 2 prospects in this trade, one of which probably projects to have a more realistic shot at making a NHL roster than either of the guys Edmonton picked. They were trying to figure out if he was going to be a part of the team going forward, and trying to see if they could sneak in to the playoffs.
No one is in denial here. They just aren't 'restarting' a rebuild, it's been underway for 3 seasons now, and there is more road behind them now than there is ahead of them. All they have left to do is to re-sign Ryan and MacArthur, find a partner for Karlsson, and get Phillips and Neil off the roster. - the_terror
Ryan will be gone at the deadline. That's almost a guarantee.
The problem is, they started a rebuild a few seasons ago and then promptly aborted it after that Cinderella season when everything went right, they made the playoffs, and MacLean was a Jack Adams finalist. If you'll recall, everyone had them finishing last in the East going into that season. They just had a lucky season and got it in their heads that they were a lot closer than they were. |

they are going to like Chiasson in Ottawa.
Not sure about the other pieces. |

Not saying the whole roster should be all prospects, but you don't trade 1sts when you're rebuilding. Its oxymoronic to do both at the same time. - systemtool
Why? The point of a rebuild is to set up your franchise for the future adding a 5x 20 goal scorer that's only 27 is a pretty good player to get for 3 unknown commodities
The odds that any of the assets we sent for Ryan end up as good as Ryan is very unlikely
Brent Wallace just said that Ottawa is not done today!!!!
Please get ehrhoff!!!!!!! |

Dude I am not trying to single you out but this opinion is classic Ottawa and why we'll never be a sports town. Star players are booed for creativity, ripped in the paper, killed on the radio and management is forced into a trade we can't possibly win and then the same people complain management didn't do enough.
No I'm not a fan of the deal but then again I never wanted Spezza moved. All I can hope is Melnyk is sandbagging until the divorce is final and then we jump back into actually competing with real talent. We're too good to get a great pick and suck too bad to matter. Frustrating!!! |

Doubt it, if i'm him id wait and see if Sens are going to spend more money or what they are planning. Ryan seems like a very competitive guy and I doubt he will want to be apart of a rebuild or a team that isn't willing to spend to make the team better. |

How do you not like this deal? Three big bodies. Chiason plays top six this year. Add one more big body and you gotta love this team. Just want one more quality player on back end. |

Ottawa's GM and owner are a disaster. Chiasson is a good prospect but nobody wants to spend on a guy who's going to bolt next season as a UFA |

Like i said last night, the Sens were told the Blues were out if the running, Bryan didn't want the Spezza situation to interfere with what he is trying to accomplish today. If Spezza stays healthy I could see him breaking the 90 point barrier in Dallas. That PP will be deadly.
I'm hearing one of Cowen/Methot are in play today. Stayed tuned.

People who talk in terms of rebuild have not been paying attention. These guys will be okay this year. |
